The envy take-over of America

On September 1, 1939, Adolph Hitler sent actual tanks rolling into Poland to take it over. It was messy, involved the help of the Russians, and many Poles died in the fighting.

Now, here in America, we’re seeing the same thing, the capitulation of an entire country under attack by a dictatorial force in Barack Obama and his communist party. But instead of the gunpowder and lead that would have been used if the Democrat Party really was serious about getting things done, they’re using a much more civilized item: human emotion and, in this case, the most basest of all emotions, envy and jealousy to achieve their goals.

The Chosen One is justifying the take over of a sixth of the U.S. economy via Obamacare by calling the entire health care issue a quest for human rights and everyone in the way of stopping Obamacare a worthless, greedy bastard. And, man, has it worked so far!

The silver linings in the dark clouds of ObamaCare

Be of good cheer. There are many silver linings in what may seem to be a completely dark cloud. Let’s think about what just happened . . .

* Statist Democrats have waited three decades to take over healthcare
* Their last attempt, in 1993-94, was a bust
* And aside from those two years, they haven’t controlled Congress and the White House since the Carter years
* Now, it’s already fairly obvious that their current control won’t last long

After all . . .

* The American electorate leans conservative/libertarian and libertarian/liberal, NOT Statist Liberal
* Public dislike for Statism is why the Statist Republicans got fired in 2008, and it will likely cause many Statist Democrats to be fired too, starting this year

We think this explains the Democrats’ suicidal determination to pass their healthcare bill now, at all costs, in spite of the massive public opposition . . .

It was now or never!

Even so, public pressure, including tens of thousands of letters from DC Downsizers, forced the Statist Democrats to make major changes . . .

They had to drop their “deem and pass self-executing rule,” by which they hoped to make the Senate healthcare bill the law of the land, without ever voting for it.

You made the House Democrats do something they didn’t want to do. You made them cast a direct vote for the hated Senate bill.

Tax-funded bribery is also becoming a major issue. Witness the furor over the Cornhusker Kickback and the Louisiana Purchase. Public pressure made the Statist politicians retreat on this issue as well.

You also killed the so-called “public option,” which would have put us on the fast track to fully Socialist healthcare. As it stands now, the bill Congress actually passed more resembles Socialism’s kissing-cousin, Corporate Fascism. This is why . . .

Paul Krugman Versus Reality

March 18th, 2010 6:00 pm  |  by  |  Published in congress, Economics, Federal Reserve, government spending, inflation, Liberty, Money, national debt, Obama, Peter Schiff, Politics  |  0

by Peter Schiff, president of Euro Pacific Capital and author of Crash Proof 2.0: How to Profit from the Economic Collapse

In his latest weekly New York Times column, Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman put forward arguments that were so nonsensical that the award committee should ask for its medal back.

Recent rhetoric from Washington has put the economic relationship between the U.S. and China squarely on the front burner, and Krugman is demanding that we crank up the flame. This week 130 members of Congress sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner demanding that the Obama administration designate China as a “currency manipulator”. Following that, a bipartisan group of senators introduced a bill that looks to force the Obama administration’s hand. For its own part, Beijing invites criticism by continuing to deny its utterly obvious currency agenda.

As these tensions escalate, most economists urge Washington to tread lightly because of the negative fallout for America if China were to begin selling its enormous cache of U.S. Treasury bonds. Krugman pushes back, asserting that the U.S. risks little by playing hardball, and that China has more to lose. He asserts that a Chinese decision to end its purchases of U.S. Treasury debt would make only a marginal impact on long-term interest rates. Did you hear that Stockholm?

Can the House pass the Senate healthcare bill without voting on it?

March 17th, 2010 5:37 pm  |  by  |  Published in congress, Constitution, DownsizeDC.org, Health Care, Liberty, Obama, Politics  |  1

Can the House pass the Senate healthcare bill without voting on it? If Speaker Pelosi has her way then that may be what happens. It’s hard to know whether to laugh or cry, and we keep wondering, can they really get away with it?

For one thing, there’s a 1998 Supreme Court ruling that says each chamber of Congress must approve the exact same wording of a bill before that bill can become law.

You wouldn’t think Congress would need a court ruling to determine this, but they are politicians, so they need lots of remedial assistance with simple logic.

We really don’t think this pig can fly. If the Democrats try to launch it, the courts will sink it. And a differently constituted Congress may also repeal it after the November election. But you never know, so we need to keep pressuring Congress to drop this bill. Please write them another letter. Remember . . .

These people work for you. They also have the power of coercion over you. You have the right to tell them what you think, as often as you want, day after day, or even several times a day. Use this right.

Every letter you send gets counted and reported up the chain of command. And some of these letters will be read by the top staff in each Congressional office. Even President Obama reads 10 letters per day. So your letters DO count. They do matter. Keep sending them. Specifically, today . . .

Temporary fatigue can lead to a permanent bad outcome

March 5th, 2010 10:22 am  |  by  |  Published in Big Government, congress, DownsizeDC.org, Health Care, Obama, Politics  |  2 Responses

The polls are clear. Most Americans hate the Democrats’ healthcare plan. But Obama and Pelosi don’t care what you think. They want to use an obscure process called reconciliation to bypass the need for a super-majority in the Senate.

This foolish move may cost the Democrats their majority control of Congress, but it will also be hazardous to your health, if they get away with it. Here’s the key to stopping them . . .

Obama and Pelosi lack the votes they need in the House for their reconciliation scheme to work. Very few House Democrats are as suicidal as the President and the Speaker. We must keep it that way by maintaining the pressure.

We know you must be tired of this issue, but you must not relent. Temporary fatigue can lead to a permanent bad outcome. Please send Congress another letter using our quick and easy Educate the Powerful system.

10 Reasons Why You Need Socialized Medicine

February 27th, 2010 12:24 am  |  by  |  Published in Big Government, Commentary, Health Care, Humor, nationalization, Obama, Politics, Socialism  |  6 Responses

Whether you call it ObamaCare, PelosiCare, HarryReidCare, DemocratCare, or just plain stupid, Socialized Medicine is the Holy Grail to the president and his Democrat Party. They just can’t stop talking about and are as fixated with it as a puppy with its own tail.

But the more Mr. Obama talks about his plans, the worse it gets for him. The problem is that he hasn’t presented it properly. As an aid to Democrats everywhere, these are the positions they should be pushing to make this dream reality:

1) Socialized Medicine is free. I don’t know how they do it, but, by golly, nobody has to pay for it. Now if they could do something about the rising cost of cigarettes, gas, sodas, and my tanning bed treatments.

2) Socialized Medicine protects medical professionals and hospitals from extraordinary lawsuits. Right now Republicans and many physicians are  pointing out that to control medical costs, tort reform needs to be initiated to rein in the runaway costs of medical malpractice lawsuits. With Socialized Medicine there would be no need for this legislation. As the government would run the health care system how would anyone be able to sue Uncle Sam? Especially if he wasn’t in the mood to be sued. Socialized Medicine means never having to say “Oops!”.

3) Socialized Medicine covers all diseases. Time and again we see insurance companies denying care for unusual diseases or treatments. Now everything will be covered up to and including euphoria, apoplexy, and miner’s squint. And you won’t have to pay for those pills and medical devices you saw advertised on late-night TV.

Will the Pause Refresh?

by John Browne – Senior Market Strategist, Euro Pacific Capital

The world is currently in the eye of an economic hurricane. The leading edge of the storm, which made landfall in the second quarter of 2008, raged until the first quarter of 2009, and nearly demolished the world’s financial system. By sand-bagging with trillions of freshly-printed paper currencies, fudging accounting rules, subsidizing key financial houses and markets, and calming the masses with half-baked rhetoric, a worldwide collapse was averted.

But the calm is deceptive.

Because of the lull, Western governments have allowed our structural deficits to fester. Now, their spokesmen are predicting sunny skies for the foreseeable future. The Federal Reserve Chairman speaks of “exit strategies” and President Obama asserts that his stimulus package has prevented a second Great Depression. This inability to see past the horizon means our politicians have squandered our final chance to build sturdier shelters in advance of the hurricane’s trailing edge.

Boss Hogg

February 23rd, 2010 10:32 pm  |  by  |  Published in Big Government, Health Care, Investing, Market Regulation, nationalization, Obama, Politics, price control, price controls, Socialism  |  13 Responses

In Barack Obama’s latest health care plan is a proposal to give the Health and Human Services secretary the power to block price increases in premiums by health insurers. That power, on its face, would be subjective and political. However, it would complete the take-over of American companies by this increasingly relentless socialist administration.

Look at the facts, these days government dictates how to make a product, the government dictates what to put in a product, the government dictates shipping methodology if the U.S. Postal Service is used, the government dictates working conditions with OSHA, the government dictates minimum pay for employees and who to hire with EEOC laws, the government dictates salaries and bonuses for management in some industries, and, at the end of the day, for its efforts, the government will be on hand to collect its fair share of the company’s profit through taxation if a company is fortunate enough to make a profit on its transactions.

Now the government wants to dictate to companies what they will charge for their products.

What decision making is left for a company under this administration? Helping pick the color of tablecloths in the company mess hall?

This proposal will be the final nail in the de facto take-over of American business. And it neatly avoids the messiness and expense of actually having to buy or run companies ala General Motors or AIG. Free companies! What socialist politician wouldn’t be giddy with excitement over the prospect?

You just gotta admire that crazy Capitalist Socialism.

Tell Congress to Stop Wasting Our Time

February 23rd, 2010 1:45 pm  |  by  |  Published in Activism, Big Government, congress, Debt, DownsizeDC.org, Economics, Health Care, Liberty, national debt, Obama  |  0

President Obama thinks he can revive healthcare reform with yet another new bill and a televised February 25th conference with Republican opponents. His bill blends the House and Senate bills, introduces price controls, and still includes the unconstitutional requirement for individuals to purchase health insurance.

Tell Congress to stop wasting our time and start working toward real reforms that will preserve freedom and help the economy.

You may borrow from or copy this letter . . .

I wish the President and Congress would stop wasting our time with their pet healthcare schemes.

* economic recovery, deficit reduction, and ending the wars should be higher priorities right now
* the President’s proposed price controls will force private insurers to deny coverage for more services http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/2010/02/22/obamas-best-idea-rationing-care-via-clinton-esque-price-controls/
* the individual mandate to carry health insurance is an unconstitutional “direct tax” that won’t withstand judicial scrutiny http://www.heritage.org/research/legalissues/lm0049.cfm
* which means if Congressional opponents don’t derail the bill, the Supreme Court probably will
