Ron Paul now on top in Iowa, Gingrich fading fast

In the latest poll released by Public Policy Polling, Ron Paul is now leading in Iowa with 23% of the vote. In second place is Romney with 20%. Gingrich has dropped to 14%. While the complete results are not all come up roses for Paul. They demonstrate two things that I’ve already been repeating over and over again:

  1. Ron Paul is unlikely to win the GOP nomination but…
  2. If he did win the GOP nomination, he’d beat Obama.

The poll results again show that most of Paul’s support is coming from younger people, independents, and Democrats. From the release:

Paul’s base of support continues to rely on some unusual groups for a Republican contest.  Among voters under 45 he’s at 33% to 16% for Romney and 11% for Gingrich.  He’s really going to need that younger than normal electorate because with seniors Romney’s blowing him out 31-15 with Gingrich coming in 2nd at 18%. Paul is also cleaning up 35-14 with the 24% of voters who identify as either Democrats or independents. Romney is actually ahead 22-19 with GOP voters.  Young people and non-Republicans are an unusual coalition to hang your hat on in Iowa, and it will be interesting to see if Paul can actually pull it off.

The young people, the Independents, and the Democrats will be the people who elect the President in the general election.

    Ron Paul 2012!

Well if you mean by "younger people", people under 45 then "…among voters under 45 he’s at 33% to 16% for Romney and 11% for Gingrich."

    - Not a bad place to be. 11 months to go. The economy getting worse. The US and world going bankrupt. I'd say even the densest people will vote for change – even if they are over 45.

its because younger people use the internet and have a much more open mind.

the problem with the older generation is that they're still using MSM as their primary news source because thats what they grew up with

my grandmother for example still watches fox and cnn and soaks up everything they say

i almost had a heart attack when she said she was voting for mitt romney because he would "bring change" lolll

I am 54 years old…and i cant say it loud enough to people of my age group
VOTE Ron Paul please my children depend on what our country had been founded on!

Dear American's…if you are undecided on who to vote for and you happen to feel like voting for smaller gov. and keeping our money at home…and LIVING under our United States Constitution (that happened to work just fine until greed went unnoticed for decades in D.C.) Vote Ron Paul! Once he is our president he will be alone in D.C. with all of the wolves! and greedy liars.
It is up to US to Stand with him as a larger pack when he is there, to change Washington D.C.
many of the changes that will take place will be enforced by the U.S. Constitution. Our new president will be up against the strongest of evil and he will need The Rest of America! Ron Paul……….2012.

A wall is built one stone at a time. Its strength is measured in numbers and how well the stones fit tightly together. The wall that is being built now is called the Revolution. Its foundation is solid because it has a master builder, his name is Ron Paul. If there is a better man than Ron Paul that wants to become our next president, he is not standing up to be counted. The few that are standing up have been weighed and measured. They have been found lacking in all the important areas it takes to be the President of The United States. The American people have been wanting for a true leader for decades. Our wait is over. You only need to listen to his words, it is then you will realize his views are as close to the founders of our great nation as this country has seen in over 200 years.

PS I am 62 and I believe there are many older citizens that understand the truth when they hear it or read it. I believe Ron Paul is a sleeping giant that has opened the eyes of many and his voice will be heard in 2012.
