The peak Smoot-Hawley tarriff was 20% and accounted for a much smaller percentage of the GNP than the monetary policy mistakes. And Smoot Hawley was passed AFTER the stock market crash. Most European countries have a 15% tarriff on imported US goods, so why don't we retaliate? We can't afford to not have tarriffs because our countries overhead is so high that we are not competitive. The anti tarriff people should explain how we stop the hemoraging of US treasure caused by the trade deficit.

I!m much less interested in who compares Obama to whom, than who he is. He is commander in chiel of the military, presiding over two wars with no military experience, Hes running the big business of the us government and a large auto company and never had any experience operating even a little small business.. He is heading up the drive for reformed socialistic health care, and not a doctor.. He!s the head=knocker handling as the CEO billions in things like stimulous, and not an economist.He flies to Dennmark to represent us in olympics bid, yet hes not an athelete
oops did I say I1m interested in who he is, not really, more interested in who he is not.
