Rand Paul followed up his radio interview with Glenn Beck last week with a television appearance yesterday. They discussed health care and even offered up a few free market reform ideas.
Back in May of 2007 I wrote the following words about Ron Paul following the first GOP Primary Debate:
Ron Paul seems to have the views I (mostly) agree with, but I’m convinced he is the wrong messenger.
Much of what happened after I wrote that pushed me down a path of hope but to this day I still feel Ron Paul leaves a lot on the table when it comes to thinking on his feet and framing his arguments for general appeal. Then again part of his appeal to me and for many others is his brutal honesty.
Unfortunately no matter how right he is there are many people who will always see him as “that crazy Ron Paul guy.”
The only way to combat that sentiment is to frame the same positions in a more appealing way and not actually be Ron Paul.
Enter Rand Paul. All I’ve seen and heard from Rand Paul thus far makes me believe he can succeed where his father could not (winning over more “mainstream” Republicans). His interview yesterday with Glenn Beck gives us further proof of this ability.

Insurance is only one part. The number of physicians is a political decision. The Council on Graduate Medical Education, an arm of congress staffed by the AMA, tells congress how many doctors to train every year. The AMA wants a short supply of doctors so they can charge more. It's Enron style economics. You reduce supply and drive up the cost. This happens with no other profession; not lawyers, not engineers, not ditch diggers. How can the market demand for doctors be met if the government is squeezing the supply at the behest of the AMA? Also, the "Council" in their greed, severely miscalculated. The baby boomers are retiring just when the doctor shortage will turn for the worse.

I think Rand is terrific. I donated already, and plan to donate on August 20th for the money bomb.
But I'm not ready to say he's THE messenger as opposed to his father, just because actually sticking to principles in office is what makes Ron Paul so unique.
Ron Paul has never backed down from Constitutional principles and principles of liberty over 20 years of having all kinds of slurs and mud thrown at him. I know of no one else who actually has gotten into power and retained that level of principle. I am one of those people who can absolutely say 'Ron Paul cured my apathy.'
I hope Rand, having been raised by Ron, after all, will have similar commitment to principle, and everything I have seen so far says he does. However, I'm waiting for him to get into the Senate, and demonstrate that. Obviously, our first step is to get him there, and I am completely on board with that. I'm donating to other liberty candidates as well, but Rand does seem to stand head and shoulders above the rest.
But I'm still a Ron Paul Republican.

I don't disagree with anything you say here. I'm right there with ya.
In retrospect I should have put a question mark at the end of the article title. It is way too early to be able to say with 100% certainty that Rand is the right messenger, but so far so good. And I'd love for him to have the chance to prove himself in the Senate.

The liberty movement is growing because of Ron Paul and the grassroots. Many analysis I see now commonly refer to the "Ron Paul Wing" of the Republican Party. I think Dr. Paul is widely understood by these people, whose numbers and influence are steadily growing. Rand is a welcome addition. Ron Paul is still "cool." The mainstream still doesn't quite get it. They will.

I have already donated to the exploratory committee for Rand Paul. I am not from Kentucky but I will surely support a candidate with views like his (and his dad) instead of supporting some fly-by-night milk-toast congressional politician in my local district or even a party loyal republican with the blinders on. I don’t care which ‘party’ they belong to. The two parties have sold out to globalism a long time ago so I want to know the character of the candidate not the party affiliation. I want a constitutional candidate and that’s all. Rand Paul fits the bill and he will get my support. I am already on for the money bomb on the 20th. I would suggest that others do the same.

rand paul may be the right messenger but ron paul was the man who truly began this movement. when the liberty movement succeeds, ron paul will go down in history as its father.
