Bernanke's goals of full employment and price stability (meaning inflation not deflation to the Fed) were assigned by Humphrey-Hawkins in 1946, the second worst piece of legislation on the subject right after the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 itself. We as Americans should have no problem divorcing ourselves from the naive thoughts of our ancestors. In 1913 and 1946 women couldn't vote and african-americans were segregated. It was right to reject those dumb ideas of our forefathers and it's right to reject the Federal Reserve too.
