Who called Ron Paul the Thomas Jefferson of our day?

April 14th, 2009 9:07 am  |  by  |  Published in Activism, Andrew Napolitano, Liberty, Radio, Ron Paul  |  0

Who gave that title to Ron Paul? The answer is (of course) Judge Andrew Napolitano, the host of the weekly freedom-loving web show Freedom Watch. I always love when the Judge hosts his radio show solo. This week he is doing just that.

Brian and The Judge airs beginning at 9am EST and can be heard at http://www.foxnewsradio.com/ and on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio on channels 145(Sirius) and 168(XM).

Later today we’ll find out the Judge’s guests for Freedom Watch tomorrow, but this morning and every morning all week why not give the Judge a call to promote HR1207, discuss the Tea Party events being held this week, or any other liberty loving topic of note? You can do so at 1-866-408-7669.

Higgs: Watch the minnow, ignore the whale

April 14th, 2009 6:30 am  |  by  |  Published in Bailouts, Big Government, Economics, Free Market, government spending, Liberty, Market Regulation  |  0

Robert Higgs is quickly becoming one of my favorite free market writers. In his latest he hammers home the facts about how the government manufactured the economic crisis and is seeking more and more power because of it.

How do once-free people lose their liberty? The formula may be stated succinctly: crisis and leviathan. The procedure for government officials and their supporters who hope to gain by quashing the people’s liberties is, first, cause a serious crisis, thereby heightening the public’s fears, and, second, blame others for the crisis, pose as the people’s savior, and thereby justify the seizure of new powers allegedly necessary to remedy the crisis and to prevent the recurrence of such crises in the future.

Ron Paul suggests using Letters of Marque and Reprisal for pirates

April 13th, 2009 10:20 pm  |  by  |  Published in Constitution, Foreign Policy, Liberty, Ron Paul, terrorism, War  |  13 Responses

In a recently released video from Ron Paul’s Campaign For Liberty Paul worries about the Somalia pirate situation and suggests using Letters of Marque and Reprisal as a solution.

In the video Paul suggests that the situation with the pirates now is similar to the way terrorists were prior to 9-11. He worries that these recent events may cause the U.S. to spend even more money on military interventionism overseas.

He offered the Letters of Marque and Reprisal solution back in 2002 as a response to the 9/11 attacks as well. Surprise! Ron Paul follows the Constitution again.  Watch his video message below.

Vanishing Doctors

D o w n s i z e r – D i s p a t c h

Quote of the Day: “Government cripples you, then hands you a crutch and says, ‘See, if it wasn’t for us, you couldn’t walk.” — Harry Browne (1933-2006), co-founder of Downsize DC

Subject: The not so mysterious case of the vanishing doctors

In case you missed it . . .

A survey by The Physician’s Foundation finds that nearly HALF of primary care doctors plan to reduce or eliminate their practices in the next three years!

The survey also gives the reasons . . .

* Too much non-clinical paperwork
* Difficulty getting reimbursed
* Too much government regulation
* Lack of time (caused by the above problems) to form patient relationships

These problems exist because the government has corrupted the nature of health insurance.

* Insurance is supposed to cover rare but expensive procedures
* But various government policies have made health insurance cover the medical equivalents of oil changes and tire rotations
* This means that most medical care is paid for by the government, or by insurance companies, and not by the people actually seeking the care
* This causes people to over-use medical services, and doctors to order questionable procedures
* That causes both insurance companies and the government to limit their costs by second-guessing every decision your doctor makes
* This burden of regulation leads to piles of non-clinical paperwork and difficulty getting reimbursed

But it gets worse. Health care prices are actually set by the government . . .

Thank You for Paying Your “Voluntary” Income Tax! Love, The IRS

In a Time of Universal Deceit, Telling the Truth is a Revolutionary Act.” – George Orwell, author of 1984

1) The premise behind collecting the federal income tax is a complete farce. The IRS claims the tax is voluntary, whereas any sane American realizes that she or he will go to jail if the tax is not paid. This is evident from not only the legal code, but even from the latest 1040 instructions to the taxpayer!  (1A) (1B) (2) (3)

IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman writes that the American taxpayer willingly pays income tax “of their own free will” but laments “unfortunately, there will always be some that cheat their fellow citizens by avoiding the payment of their fair share of taxes.” Shulman then infers that IRS enforcement will be “prompt” and “strong” (read: ‘swift’ and ‘merciless’) for this voluntary tax. (4)

The Treasury calls it “our voluntary tax system.” The IRS claims it pursues “enforcement programs to promote voluntary compliance” and establishes “strategies to maximize voluntary tax law compliance by emphasizing customer satisfaction.” (5)

marx2) The federal income tax was originally a Marxist idea. Karl Marx wrote the 10 Planks of a Communist State in his Communist Manifesto. The second plank, right after the abolition of private property was “a heavy progressive or graduated income tax.” (6) In 1909, this Marxist idea was politically accepted by Americans as retribution against the “evil capitalists” who had caused the Panic of 1907. 100 years later, both political parties now scapegoat all those in the financial industry as “evil doers.” (7) By claiming an ever-increasing amount of your income, the State literally owns your labor. Ron Paul Loses The Game Of Partisan Nepotism

April 13th, 2009 1:09 am  |  by  |  Published in Activism, Bailouts, Big Government, Commentary, Constitution, Election, government spending, Liberty, Maven Commentary, Ron Paul, rule of law, Socialism  |  4 Responses

The cruel beauty of having Barack Obama as President is how he can be used as an almost black and white litmus test for partisan nepotism (or hackery as some call it). Dip your favorite lawmakers (or special interest groups) in the testing solution and they come out pure red, pure blue, or some shade of purple. Here are a few examples:

Barney Frank: Under Bush he clamored for more transparency. Under Obama he’s mum on transparency = Pure Blue Partisan Hack.

Neo-con Tea Party Enthusiasts: Some under Bush supported the bailouts. Under Obama they scream for his head because of the bailouts = Pure Red Partisan Hacks.

Antiwar Obama Fans: They wanted to impeach Bush for getting us into the Iraq War on lies. They are oddly less enthusiastic about protesting Obama for relocating more and more troops to Afghanistan = Pure Blue Partisan Hacks.

Ron Paul: Under Bush denounced the Iraq War as unconstitutional. Under Obama still denouncing foreign interventionism = Pure Purple Principled Non-partisan.

Playing the game of partisan nepotism is quite easy. The rules are merely to compare the actions (and reactions) of various individuals and groups to the policies of George W. Bush in the past and Barack H. Obama right now. No doubt there are many other examples. Feel free to leave your own in the comments.

The goal of this game is to lose by showing your purple pride, revealing that you are a principled non-partisan. You believe in the rule of law and don’t change your views just because your team is in the lead. Sadly, I’d say that most Americans are either purely red or purely blue. Sometimes when you win, you really do lose.

Amazing Public Comments on the FDIC/Treasury “Legacy Loans Program”

The LLP consisting of PPIFs (Public-Private-Investment Funds) is T.H.E.F.T. I can’t believe some of the comments posted.

Sheila Bair, chairman of the FDIC, and Treasury Secretary Timothy “Turbo Tax” Geithner are two of the unelected central planners of the current administration, and are behaving quite as I had predicted in this piece for the Campaign for Liberty.  Bair, at least, deserves to be somewhat commended. Yes, commended!! On the FDIC website, Bair allowed the publishing of some seriously dissenting citizens.

The FDIC requested public comments concerning its new Legacy Loan Program over a two-week period ending yesterday, April 10th.  [You can receive these emails by joining the FDIC's mailing list - if a bank fails near me, I want to know about it ASAP.]

A Conversation on the Latest FEDspeak on Inflation and Deflation

I started a conversation on my Facebook wall and thought I would try to see if any here at the Chart (or Liberty Maven) want to add to it. The subject was this Reuters post where the president of the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank, Thomas Hoenig, said that hard as it was to predict when the winding-down process must be initiated, it will happen and the FED will do its best to avert inflation.

“We know it has to happen, but the timing I can’t tell you. Nobody knows. We will watch every indicator of data that suggests a recovery is on the way… Failure to do that at the right time means you risk a much higher inflation environment.”

On March 18th, the FED’s Open Market Committee stated:

“In light of increasing economic slack here and abroad, the Committee expects that inflation will remain subdued.  Moreover, the Committee sees some risk that inflation could persist for a time below rates that best foster economic growth and price stability in the longer term.

In these circumstances, the Federal Reserve will employ all available tools to promote economic recovery and to preserve price stability.”

“Dude, What’s Up With These Cop and Spy Shows?”

April 12th, 2009 8:39 am  |  by  |  Published in Activism, Commentary, Liberty, Television  |  0

Seriously, there’s over 20 current TV shows… what’s up with them?

I recently resigned my job in Shanghai, China and repatriated to Pennsylvania.  It has been a bit of a reverse culture shock, and I keep most of my posts on message, but this is a little weird.

I don’t watch TV, but my family does. Recently, I was trying to read while this cop show “The Mentalist” was on.  Someone wanted to switch channels and lo and behold it was just another cop show.  I got curious and started asking how many cop shows there were, and was surprised to hear a list of over 10 rattled off. Here’s the results of a 2-minute brainstorm… geez.

Here is yet another fun video from a Ron Paul supporter. The creator mashes up a segment of South Park to great effect. Hilarious.

Watch for the Ron Paul blimp cameo.
