Must See: Walter Jones Interviews Ron Paul

Congressman Walter Jones interviews Ron Paul for about 20 minutes on “Washington Watch”. The two friends of liberty discuss the current state of politics in America as it pertains to the economic crisis among other topics.

Ron Paul puts on his wise old professor hat and gives a history of the Federal Reserve and how the system they’ve created doesn’t work.

This is one of the better discussions of the fundamentals of liberty and is a must see. Watch both parts below.

Liberty Overload, Ron Paul on Bloomberg, MSNBC, and Glenn Beck

Ron Paul appeared 3 times yesterday on Television news channels.

First he appeared on Bloomberg TV to discuss Geithner’s testimony and to rail against the bailouts, as usual:

Speaking of Congress Paul says, “I don’t know if they brainwash themselves or not!”, “It’s a fairy tale!”.

Next, Paul appeared on Glenn Beck’s FOX News show. They discussed the potential for “FEMA Camps”, Obama reducing tax deductions on charitable donations, and the bailouts. Paul brings it all back to the government’s thirst for power and reduction of individual liberty.

And finally, truly the best was last as Ron Paul appears on MSNBC and takes on the media for focusing on semantics instead of the real issues and Rush Limbaugh for not being a better conservative. Paul even indirectly challenges Limbaugh to a debate. It is likely that Limbaugh will have something to say about this on his radio show tomorrow. Then again doing so may give Ron Paul more media than Rush wants him to have, so we’ll see.

How is Congress spending its time — and your money? (Part 1)

March 3rd, 2009 4:02 pm  |  by  |  Published in Big Government, congress, Constitution, government spending, Liberty, Politics  |  1

Politicians these days need to feel like they’re always “doing something” in order to justify their existence.  New bills are introduced every day.  Point in fact, no less than 21 bills were introduced yesterday.  So, what kinds of things are our esteemed representatives working on these days?  Here are some of the bills introduced just yesterday:

  • HR1244 – To provide for the award of a gold medal on behalf of the Congress to Tiger Woods, in recognition of his service to the Nation in promoting excellence and good sportsmanship, and in breaking barriers with grace and dignity by showing that golf is a sport for all people.
  • HR1243 – To provide for the award of a gold medal on behalf of Congress to Arnold Palmer in recognition of his service to the Nation in promoting excellence and good sportsmanship in golf.
  • SR61 – A resolution commending the Columbus Crew Major League Soccer Team for winning the 2008 Major League Soccer Cup.
  • HR201 – Recognizing Beverly Eckert’s service to the Nation and particularly to the survivors and families of the September 11, 2001, attacks.
  • HJR26 – Proclaiming Casimir Pulaski to be an honorary citizen of the United States posthumously.
  • HR1246 – To amend the Public Health Service Act regarding early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of hearing loss.
  • HR1247 – To protect the interests of bona fide tenants in the case of any foreclosure on any dwelling or residential real property, and for other purposes.
  • SR60 – A resolution commemorating the 10-year anniversary of the accession of the Czech Republic, the Republic of Hungary, and the Republic of Poland as members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
  • HR1252 – Provides special immigratory status for Wahab Munir and Hunain Munir, cricket players from Bangladesh.

While most of the bills introduced never make it to a full vote, time and money are being spent on these items.  It could certainly be argued that some of these items are worthwhile causes, but how can they be considered legitimate functions of the federal government?  Since the Constitution of the United States specifically enumerates the powers of the federal government and leaves everything else up to the discretion of the states, these items are clearly not legal (opposing findings of the Supreme Court notwithstanding, since the Constitution is the “Supreme Law of the Land”, not the Supreme Court).  Yet, they’re spending your money on it.  Have you contacted your representatives lately?

Stimulation by Government

As is often the case, Lew Rockwell is right on the mark when he takes Obama’s policies to task in his most recent article at the Ludwig von Mises Institute.  He points out that Obama and his team clearly fail to realize that freedom is the foundation of and the reason for social and economic flourishing, and in fact they operate as though the opposite were true.  At the same time, the general populace (especially those who have high hopes for the Obama presidency) seem to think that the nation’s leader can solver all of our ills through sheer will.  And of course, the so-called “economic stimulus” doesn’t stimulate the economy; it merely  stimulates the government.

Read the article:

The great failing of the Obama administration is that it is packed with people who show no apparent knowledge of the essential truths of liberal theory. That theory — which is the core of the American political contribution to, and the driving force of, modernity itself — is that freedom is the foundation of and the reason for social and economic flourishing. All evidence suggests they know nothing of this.

Obamites hold the opposite view, the one advanced by the pharaohs and emperors of old, all the way through the Talibans and Hugo Chavezes of our own time. It is the view that nothing is beyond the competence of the state and its great leader. Particularly in economic affairs, these people have a wildly inflated view of what the nation’s chief executive can accomplish through sheer will.

Liberal theory teaches that one truism of government is that whatever it does, the results end up making the problem not better but worse. [Continue]

Ron Paul Talks 2012 Plans and GOP Leadership on CNN

March 2nd, 2009 10:52 am  |  by  |  Published in Activism, Big Government, campaign for liberty, Liberty, Philosophy, Politics, Ron Paul  |  0

Ron Paul was interviewed on CNN’s American Morning by John Roberts this morning. They discussed CPAC, Rush Limbaugh, and Republican Party leadership.

On Limbaugh, a talk show host being a “leader” of the Party:

“I think it is sad.”

John Roberts mentions the CPAC straw poll and questions Ron Paul about running in 2012. Paul sidesteps a bit with his answer and used it as an opportunity to tout the Campaign For Liberty, also saying  that there will be a role of some sort. Roberts after hearing this answer asks Paul point blank, “Will you run again?”

Watch below for Paul’s answer.

Representative Ron Paul introduces HR 1207, a bill to audit the Federal Reserve.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ron Paul [R-TX] on February 26, 2009 introduced HR 1207, a bill to audit the Federal Reserve. For those who are not aware, the Federal Reserve is America’s quasi-private central bank and is currently not audited in any form or fashion that could be construed as meaningful or effective. In the short 446-word bill found here, Representative Paul outlays the plan to enable the Comptroller General of the GAO (Government Accountability Office) to audit the Federal Reserve system before the end of 2010.  Per the Federal Reserve, “Monetary policy is exempt from audit by the Government Accountability Office.” - (page 15/146)  This audit should also include an audit of the Federal Reserve’s gold holdings. Paul’s bill was co-signed by 11 colleagues, listed below. (emblem)

Rep. Dennis Rehberg [R-MT]

Obama has destroyed the anti-war Left

March 1st, 2009 11:04 pm  |  by  |  Published in Activism, Blowback, Commentary, Foreign Policy, Liberty, Politics, terrorism, War  |  0

What decade am I describing: The United State has chosen an impoverished, agrarian region halfway around the world to demonize and to pound into submission with its most advanced weaponry. The central governments of the region have never attacked the U.S., but we are told that militants in the area hate us and will harm us if allowed to. The U.S. strikes kill a certain number of politicized militants, along with hundreds of civilians, including, in large numbers, women and children.

The weak central governments within whose borders we operate have no ability to stay in power on their own, but are dependent on U.S. manipulation to hold up their political “leaders,” who routinely invite the U.S. to continue its assistance against their “insurgent” forces. Our President announces that in addition to the mechanized attacks on civilian areas of the region, he is significantly increasing U.S. ground forces, with a resultant rise in American troop deaths a certainty.

Have I describe the late 60’s and early 70’s, or today? Hard to tell, unless I add one more fact: The American public, including, in its entirety, the left, is entirely silent on the intervention. That makes it easy, doesn’t it? The period of time in question is right now. The target of our intervention is the border area between Pakistan and Afghanistan, and the President is Obama.

The Federal Reserve Replies on its Stock Ownership and Treasury Purchases

March 1st, 2009 1:24 pm  |  by  |  Published in Banking, Big Government, Debt, Economics, Federal Reserve, Free Market, inflation, Liberty, Money  |  0

As a follow-up investigation to a previous article “Who Owns the FED” on the share ownership of the FED yields results.

by Jake, the Champion of the Constitution
Originally published Saturday, February 28, 2009 at http://www.nolanchart.com/article6061.html

fedsealThis article is in two parts and I will shortly update my article “The Money Matrix – Who Owns the FED (PART 7/15)“. The first part consists of email excerpts with Ms. Debra LaBarbera from the department of Media Relations and Public Affairs for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, who kindly took the time to reply to my inquiries. As I have noted elsewhere, although I have written very close to a hundred letters (in my view, the majority overly respectful), to my California Congresswoman, I never been deigned worthy of a response, but the Federal Reserve has, I must say, always responded.  (emblem)

The second part consists of some guesswork (which I explain and submit to you for your review and criticism) to estimate the percentage of share ownership of the major banks that own the private stock in the Federal Reserve Bank, the quasi-private banking cartel that runs America’s central bank.

What If Someone Made Another Great Ron Paul Video?

March 1st, 2009 12:08 am  |  by  |  Published in Activism, Big Government, Blowback, Constitution, Foreign Policy, Liberty, Philosophy, Ron Paul, terrorism, War  |  0

It’s been a long time since we’ve posted a grassroots video for Ron Paul here at Liberty Maven. A new video has been released that needs to be spread far and wide.

The creator takes Ron Paul’s recent “What If” speech to Congress and tunes it up a bit. I have to admit watching Ron Paul deliver the speech on CSPAN is inspiring for someone like me, but I’m pretty sure non-Paulites have a tendency to zone out while Paul is talking.

This video changes that. It is mesmerizing and enhances Paul’s speech to the point that you really take in the meaning of his words. I thought Paul’s speech was pretty good when I first heard it, but after watching this I think it could be one of Paul’s best speeches ever.

Well, enough of my own yammering. Just watch it below and spread it around.
