Signing up for the Tea Party hypocrisy bandwagon

On my drive in to work today listening to Glenn Beck a caller from Florida thanked him for supporting their Tea Part protest over the weekend. Beck replied by telling the caller that when he saw the news coverage it looked too much like an anti-Obama rally and it was important that these “Tea Parties” aren’t about partisanship. I couldn’t agree with Beck more on this point.

Doug Mataconis (BelowTheBeltway) has been critical for the very same reasons. Apparently, there are many of us who feel that the Tea Party protest movement is becoming way too partisan rather than a true movement for limited government and restoring Constitutional rule of law.

It’s appearing more and more likely that the Tea Party efforts are being infiltrated and taken over by Obama-haters. Or was that the point all along? Of course Obama deserves some of the blame, but it shouldn’t be only about him.

Mataconis gives props to Alex Knapp (OutsideTheBeltway) for recognizing the hypocrisy too:

Let’s call the “tea party” and “going Galt” nonsense what it is: unprincipled partisan hackery. If these were truly principled protests, they’d have been around all through the Bush and Republican-controlled Congress years, too.

I’m now officially on the Mataconis/Knapp Tea Party hypocrisy bandwagon. Where do I sign up?

    Partisanship poses a very real problem to tea party efforts. These protests are not about people, but about the issues. We need to stay focused on policy issues instead of hating on the people that enact them. I am involved with the tea party efforts at reteaparty.com and we stress the importance of staying with the issues and not making attacks on people or parties.

    As in 1773-4-5 there were those that said "you protest to much" – it is not about partisanship- The GOVERNMENT is what is wrong. that is what the tea parties call attention to. If you are looking for "sides" – drop your issues at the door.

    Yes, when I see pundits such as Michelle Malkin with megaphones at Tea Party rallies, it gives me pause for concern, that the Tea Party's are being hijacked for partisan purposes. Constitutionalists and Libertarians need to get involved in leading these Tea Party's down the right path. Otherwise, it will end up justifying watered down GOP big government, instead of Democratic big government.

The point regarding the President is this.. the American people (at least I am anyway ) are looking for a leader …we/I am/are looking for someone with the moral courage to stand up and LEAD… just about anyone can walk around smiling and waving to everybody but my thoughts are Hey MR President you were chased this big car… now that you have caught get on with business. What made this country great years ago was the recognition that we alone are responsible for what we do AND our founding fathers EXPECTED the GOVT to remain small and the people would manage their day to day life… I for one WANT MY COUNTRY BACK.!!!!!! And if the President does not have the intellectual honesty to address the truth of the current issues and if he and the Congress lack the ethical and moral courage to do what is right because it is the right thing to do….then it is time for US as the population to fire them all.. all need to re-read the Declaration of Independence — that BEGINS WITH: When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

    WE I repeat WE.. must make sure the TEA PARTY keeps its focus… and NOT let it get hijacked by any political group.. Frankly I am tired of the bickering between Democrats and Republicans…. it seems that they are like two cats in bag.. both always ready for a fight and for NO REASON other than their party line….. Balderdash… I say Balderdash…

    yeah, you guys did a great job protesting all the spending during bush's 8 years in office. btw he inherited a surplus of 5.5 trillion dollars. I guess you decided to conserve all of your moral outrage for our first black president who has been in office for only 8 months. he's had plenty of time to undo the last 8 years right?

    If the Tea Party was in fact true to the principles it supposedly expounds, it would have embraced the principles of the Libertarian Party.
    Democrats embrace labor.
    Republicans embrace business.
    Libertarians embrace all of the things that the Tea Party supposedly embraces.
    Logic, and actions, would suggest that the Tea Party is simply a capitalist tool wrapped in Libertarian clothing.
