Quote of the Day: “When a government takes over a people’s economic life it becomes absolute, and when it has become absolute it destroys the arts, the minds, the liberties and the meaning of the people it governs.” — Maxwell Anderson (1888-1959) Source: The Guaranteed Life http://quotes.liberty-tree.ca/quote_blog/Maxwell.Anderson.Quote.981D

Subject: The New President’s Promises

Politicians make promises. The President-elect made a lot of them. Chris Edwards at the Cato Institue has provided a helpful summary of some of them.

We want to draw attention to these . . .

* Eliminate “ineffective government programs.”
* Expose corporate welfare.
* Enforce tougher new standards on the Office of Management and Budget’s current “PART” program, which grades program effectiveness.
* “Enforc standards when programs continually fail” by ”cutting program budgets or eliminating programs entirely” or other reforms.
* “Eliminate government programs that are not performing” by means of a “line-by-line” budget review.

These are pretty good promises. We applaud them. We’d like to help the President-elect keep them. Were he to do so, it would mark change. Other Presidents, from both parties, have made similar promises. They have not kept them.

We vote for change.

To cause change by keeping these promises the President-elect will need not only the will to do so, but also help from Congress. This is where we can assist him. Let’s be helpful.

Ron Paul and I Stand Alone on Gaza and Israel (The Gaza Slaughter 5/6)

Ron Paul2
Although outvoted last year in the House by a vote of 404-1 on the Gaza situation, Ron Paul declared America’s tacit blessing for other nations to start violence preemptive wars as intolerable. I agreed in an article on Kosovo where our embassy was attacked. But did you know some Israeli IDF soldiers agree with us?

It is amazing how much difference a year makes. Besides thanking the 100,000 readerships for helping me shake off some serious cobwebs out, the key person I need to thank is Dr. Ron Paul. Shortly following one of my first articles, where in prophetic terms, I threw up my hands and concluded that Kosovo was just a “real MESS,” Congressman Paul had the sole nay, as he so often has done, in House Resolution 951, which was a condemnation of “Palestinian rocket attacks on Israeli civilians.”

In March 2008 he said:

“As one who is consistently against war and violence, I obviously do not support the firing of rockets indiscriminately into civilian populations. I believe it is appalling that Palestinians are firing rockets that harm innocent Israelis, just as I believe it is appalling that Israel fires missiles into Palestinian areas where children and other non-combatants are killed and injured.

“Unfortunately, legislation such as this is more likely to perpetuate violence in the Middle East than contribute to its abatement. It is our continued involvement and intervention particularly when it appears to be one-sided that reduces the incentive for opposing sides to reach a lasting peace agreement.”

Well, as most are aware, Israel, under the cover of darkness, began a land assault into Gaza yesterday. Here is what Ron Paul had to say in this Campaign for Liberty video:

Ron Paul: The Enemy of Neo-Conservatism

Ron Paul has an uncanny and effortless way of making neo-conservative Republicans’ heads explode. He merely tells the truth. The modern day Republicans are desperate for an answer to “The Obama Effect” but they dare not climb up Ron Paul’s liberty tree to get there. Instead they dream the impossible dream.

They dream that they can somehow keep one hand in the neo-con cookie jar while the other hand waves over the Constitution. When Dr. Ron Paul comes along and tells them its time to amputate the gangrene neo-conservatism they dart out of the office crying like babies. One would think they would get the hint with their string of losses the past few years. Their latest and ultimate loss came this week when Al “Dog-gone it! People like me!” Franken was declared the winner over Norm Coleman in the hotly contested Minnesota Senate race.

Bush-Cheney Deserve Censure for Declaring War Against the Constitution

January 6th, 2009 12:11 pm  |  by  |  Published in Big Government, Bruce Fein, Civil Liberties, congress, Constitution, crime, fisa, foreign aid, Foreign Policy, Impeachment, Liberty, Politics, REAL ID, rule of law  |  0

Bush/CheneyI’ve long held that just about every U.S. President and U.S. Congressman deserve to be hanged (or at least some sort of punishment) for violating their oaths of office.

Upon entering office, U.S. Presidents must pledge:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Similarly, members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives must affirm:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

If our public servants aren’t held to their oaths, then the oaths are rendered meaningless.

In similar fashion, Bruce Fein has opined in the San Francisco Chronicle, that the actions of President Bush and Vice President Cheney have violated the Constitution in a variety of ways, and indeed deserve censure.  Here’s a piece of what Fein had to say:

By wielding the threat of international terrorism, the Bush-Cheney team put the nation on a permanent war footing – the first time in history that war has been undertaken against a tactic. They maintained that the entire post-9/11 world is an active battlefield where United States military force may be used to kill suspected members of al Qaeda irrespective of international boundaries.

They claimed executive privilege and state secrets to conduct secret government – thereby circumventing political and legal accountability. This included directives to former White House officials Karl Rove and Harriet Miers to flout congressional subpoenas for testimony. They detained hundreds of people (including American citizens) as enemy combatants without accusation or trial. They authorized torture (waterboarding and extraordinary rendition), abductions, secret prisons and illegal surveillance of American citizens.

Like its immediate predecessors, the 110th Congress eagerly yielded its authorities – even the power of the purse – to the president. The Iraqi War Resolution, the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Act, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act amendments, and the declination to hold Rove in contempt of Congress were emblematic.

If left unrebuked, the Bush-Cheney usurpations of power will become part of the constitutional firmament and risk creating a safe harbor for future presidential abuses. Every member of Congress, moreover, is required to take an oath to “support (the) Constitution” pursuant to Article VI. There is no corresponding oath to support the Republican or Democratic parties or to subordinate the Constitution in the name of political harmony. Censure would be no novelty.

Cynthia McKinney and the Israeli Attacks on the Dignity and USS Liberty (The Gaza Slaughter 4/6)

January 6th, 2009 11:43 am  |  by  |  Published in Big Government, congress, Foreign Policy, Liberty, Politics, War  |  1

The recent episode of Cynthia McKinney’s defenseless ship getting rammed by the Israeli Navy reminds me of the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty some forty years ago. The story of the men on board the USS Liberty is one that every American should be fully aware of when discussing the Middle East and Israel. And who are the real heroes?

mckinneyINTERNATIONAL WATERS, 5AM, December 30, 2008 – For those of you who missed it, former US Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney and CNN reporter Karl Penhaul were aboard a pleasure yacht attempting to deliver humanitarian supplies with the Free Gaza movement to the Gaza Strip, which is under siege by the Israeli “Defense” Forces. Regardless of what the reader may think about McKinney’s veracity, the evidence is pretty damning against the IDF this time. After shadowing the Dignity for a half hour, they rammed the boat three times without warning, almost sinking it in the process. You can check the evidence from Penhaul and McKinney in these videos here and here. The Israeli government claimed that the boat was first warned to not proceed, then claims the pleasure yacht took evasive action. CNN’s Penhaul, who was awake when the attack began, the ship’s captain and McKinney all deny these claims. In fact, the idea of a pleasure yacht outmaneuvering modern gunboats is extremely far-fetched. (photo)

McKinney ran for president, and is labeled by both Republicans and Democrats as ‘female,’ ‘black,’ ‘Communist,’ ‘aggressive,’ and a ‘tree-hugger.’ I do not know, she may even agree with a few of these labels, such as ‘female,’ but I choose to call her what she has proven to me to be: a seeker of truth. As I wrote here “Cynthia McKinney and the Alleged 5,000 Dead Hurricane Katrina Inmates“, I was mystified by the media black-out of what sounds at first is a fairly outlandish claim during her presidential campaign. [I am no longer shocked by media black-outs as seen here “Police State Stomps on Iraq Veteran’s Face as McBama Sanctions Attack on Freedom of Speech: The Story of the Hempstead 15 (Part 1/3)” when mounted police right outside the third McBama debate attacked unarmed and nonviolent veterans.

Israel Military Kills American Protester – An Economic Perspective (The Gaza Slaughter 3/6)

As George Bush’s recent comment reveals the usual lack of brain activity in our highest officials, can Austrian economics shed any more light on the Middle East conflict, Rachel Corrie’s death, and even the Shministim?

rachel corrieIn Part 1, I related the story of the Israeli shministim, who are young imprisoned conscientious objectors. In Part 2, I shared the story of Rachel Corrie, an American college student who traveled to Gaza in 2003 and died after two months of serving as a human shield. She was brutally killed by an Israeli Defense Force military bulldozer, which was trying to demolish a Palestinian’s home behind her. This article will utilize a seemingly small detail, which was that the driver of the bulldozer was a Russian immigrant. (photo source BBSNews File Photos. Used With Permission)

As we look at the Israeli-Palestinian situation, let’s hear another winner of a message from America’s insufferable George Bush, before he is replaced by the next insufferable tyrant Barack Obama, who, as I demonstrated in Part 1, supports the military conscription and slavery of our nation’s youth. In CNN’s article “Bush Blames Hamas for Gaza Conflict:

“Since Hamas’ violent takeover in the summer of 2007, living conditions have worsened for Palestinians in Gaza. By spending its resources on rocket launchers instead of roads and schools, Hamas has demonstrated that it has no intention of serving the Palestinian people.”

Ted Kennedy’s Deathbed Legacy

Subject: Plotting to Socialize Medicine
Ted Kennedy
A swift attack is coming. “We need to be on the offense,” said the soon to be Secretary of Health and Human Services, Tom Daschle. He claims they learned, from the Clinton failure, how to pass socialized healthcare.

President-elect Obama believes that his health care gimmicks should be part of his economic recovery schemes. While you and I were decking the halls, and kissing our sweethearts under the mistletoe, he was stealthily advancing his agenda.

During the last half of December the Obama transition team held house meetings across the country. They took the feedback from these socialist trysts, then posted it at their interactive site, Change.gov. The Obama administration is conspiring to hit the ground running in January, using the claim that these meetings represent public support to compel Congress to act . . .

. . . and pass the package quickly.

The author of the bill is likely to be Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA). He’s very sick, but has been running meetings from his bed. He wants his dying legacy to be the nationalization of health insurance.

Is Ron Paul Going Crazy?

January 5th, 2009 9:00 pm  |  by  |  Published in Big Government, Free Market, government spending, Individual Responsibility, Liberty, Maven Commentary, Money, Philosophy, Politics, Ron Paul, Social Security, Socialism, Taxes  |  0

I’m starting to worry about Dr. Ron Paul. Below is some video from him during the Madoff discussion on Capitol Hill earlier today. His words are the equivalent of looking around the room and giving everyone the finger. I think he may need to calm his words down a bit. Nah… not really, I love it.

How can anyone sit there during a congressional hearing as a member of Congress and speak such plain free market truth? Of course he’s not crazy. He’s the only sane one in the bunch. He is the wise free market grandfather trying to keep the spoiled rotten meddling children in line. Maybe some day they’ll listen.

Here are a few choice words from my president:

“If you look at the principle of fractional reserve banking–that is a Ponzi scheme.”

“Everybody knows the Social Security system is a Ponzi scheme!”

We don’t need the SEC at ALL!

Israel Military Bulldozes, Kills American Protester in Gaza (The Gaza Slaughter 2/6)

More news you do not hear too much about – the story of Rachel Corrie. Comments are even more welcome than usual!

Caterpillar D9R bulldozer[Author's note: If you think the series title solely refers to the current scenario where Israelis are killing Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, you are incorrect, although it is my intent to raise this stereotype. The title refers to the physical murdering or spiritual suppression of any individuals by other individuals in Middle East conflicts.] (photo from Mathknight license)

RAFAH, GAZA, 2003 – Rachel Corrie, aged 23, from Olympia, Washington was run over by an Israeli Defense Force armored American-made Caterpillar D9R bulldozer driven by a Russian immigrant while wearing a fluorescent vest and acting as a “human shield” in front of a Palestinian’s home on March 16, 2003. She suffered what was most likely an excruciatingly painful death, died at the scene, and formally pronounced dead at a hospital. As part of her college’s independent study program, Ms. Corrie had arrived in Israel on January 22, 2003 to work with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), so she had only been in the country for a scant two (2) months. The IDF held an investigation which resulted in no action taken against the driver. The ISM is a controversial organization which supported a policy of non-violent engagement against the Israeli military, taking advantage of their international status to be employed as human shields or engage in acts of civil disobedience. It also appears that from the perspective of some Palestinians, the ISM was viewed as possible Israeli spies.

Israeli Conscientious Objectors – The Shministim (The Gaza Slaughter PART 1/6)

This series is dedicated to your self-respect. Modern slavery still exists. Just look at Israel – prisons inside and outside Gaza. America, is this what you really want?

freeCheck out this 2-minute clip: “what Americans aren’t supposed to know.”

Meet the Shministim, Israeli youths who have denied their government right to use them as slaves and fodder for war-making or war-preparation. “Selective service” as we call it here in the United States, or “Civilian Service” program as Obama and Rahm like to refer to it starting on January 20th, is simply modern slavery, no different at its heart than that of antiquity or Civil War-era times, whether the slaves are used for war or for providing work. I explained here in more detail my statement against Obama on his support of a military draft back in July of last year.  (photos)

The Shministim claim that there are two huge lies in progress:

  • Israel is “defending” itself against the Palestinians
  • All Israelis support their government’s policy of endless war against Palestinian civilians.

On the first point, just look at the causalities. Israel at best has a handful dead from rockets. This AP article has Israeli rescue services claiming 48 Israelis wounded, mostly with “light injuries.”  The Palestinians are being dive-bombed and slaughtered, with over 400 dead and close to 2,000 wounded. Even when if one assumes there is legitimate Palestinian instigation (and there likely is), guess who is on the “defensive” side here?  As Jahfre Fire Eater reported in his article “Pay-Per-View War?“, the Israeli Defense Forces have started a YouTube channel with footage of Palestinian insurgents getting killed.  I dare them to show all 2,400 casualities.
