Should Gun Owners Worry About Eric Holder?

WASHINGTON - JANUARY 15: Attorney General nomi...

At first I felt the huge demand to purchase guns immediately following Barack Obama’s victory was an overreaction, but with the nomination of Eric Holder for Attorney General now I’m not so sure. The Gun Owners of America exist to stir up the pot, but I’ve found they are always more “right” on guns than the NRA. A few days ago they released a statement strongly opposing Eric Holder’s nomination urging people to write their Senators.

The incoming President’s choice for U.S. Attorney General, Eric Holder, is an anti-gun extremist who has assailed gun owners since his days in the Bill Clinton administration.

Holder, who served as Deputy Attorney General from 1997-2001, supports a 3-day waiting period for handgun purchases, one-gun-a-month rationing, licensing and registration of all gun owners, mandatory so-called smart gun technology, a lifetime gun ban for certain juvenile offenses and regulating gun shows out of existence.

So as it becomes increasingly clear Holder will be our next Attorney General it may be time to start stocking up on firearms before it becomes much more difficult to purchase them.

It can’t hurt to heed GOA’s advice and let your Senator know your own opposition to such an anti-Constitutional Attorney General. Haven’t we learned our lesson from the Bush administration to oppose Attorney Generals who continually spit upon the Constitution where it is politically expedient? Apparently not.

Ron Paul and Barack Obama, Trading Places

You may be tempted to get caught up in the glory of Barack Obama’s inauguration pomp and circumstance on Tuesday. You may be floored by the weight of the moment as you witness the many tear covered black, white, and in between faces on your television screen. Yes, America has elected its first black president. Perhaps I should say “African American” president. I don’t know which is less offensive anymore. It depends on who you ask, I guess.

In the end Obama is just a man. He may be dancing on clouds as America’s messiah today, but I fully expect him to become an apologetic pariah before the end of his first term. You know kind of like George W. Bush is right now. To Obama’s credit he is trying to subdue expectations, especially those about the economy. Unfortunately for him, hardly anyone is listening.

A few weeks ago I was walking in DC near the White House. I noticed a gift shop called “Inauguration Station”. Through the glass windows from wall to wall were Obama items, including several life size cardboard cutouts and posters with his face. I couldn’t help but be reminded of Iraq war news footage when the big statue of Saddam Hussein was pulled down. No, I don’t think Obama is the equivalent of Saddam Hussein. It made me think of the words, “The mighty will fall.” Barack Hussein Obama has nowhere to go but down from this point.

Ron Paul and Cavuto Teaming Up Against Obama’s Spending (again)

Ron Paul was interviewed for a 2nd time in as many days this morning by Neil Cavuto. This time he was on the FOX News Channel during their Obama inauguration coverage. He echoed some of what he said last night and probably used the word “ideologue” like 300 times.

I liked how Cavuto stopped the interview for a bit and talked directly to the audience as if he and Paul were on a team together fighting to better America rather than kowtow to all of the Obama hoopla spreading like a virus through most media outlets these days.

I’m pretty sure Cavuto holds the Ron Paul media appearance record these days. It’s like Paul is a regular guest on his show. At this point it doesn’t seem to be about ratings but that Cavuto truly enjoys having someone on his show that he agrees with when it comes to the economy.

America’s Economic Collapse Causing Riots?

January 17th, 2009 2:39 am  |  by  |  Published in Activism, Big Government, Individual Responsibility, Liberty, Maven Commentary, Politics  |  0

There have been a few economists and trend analyzers predicting social unrest in America within the next 5 years. That unrest is to come about due to economic reasons. That unrest has been called a “revolution” by at least one of these prognosticators.

The following is from a BBC news article dated January 15th, 2009:

Police used mace and truncheons to disperse rioters who smashed shop windows and overturned a police van after failing to storm parliament.

The violence followed a peaceful rally in which some 10,000 people accused the government of economic mismanagement and demanded new elections.

Latvia’s economy is expected to contract by at least 5% this year.

Until last year, it was one of the fastest growing economies in Europe.

So will the America of 2012 be like the Latvia of 2009? The Latvian protesters  are doing this because they feel their government isn’t doing enough. My hope is that if this ever happens in America it will be due to our government doing too much.

“Ron Paul 2012″ says Ann Coulter

Ann Coulter at the Time 100 red carpet.

Image via Wikipedia

Ann Coulter appeared on FOX’s semi-humorous comedy program “Red Eye” the other day and named Ron Paul as her choice for President in 2012. It may have been meant as sarcasm but it was difficult to tell. After all, at one point she said she’d support Hillary Clinton if McCain was the GOP nominee.

When told that Ron Paul will be “in his eighties” (which is not true) she said under her breath, “Someone like Ron Paul”.

Coulter has also been known to say things that really annoy some on the left, but I like when she gets Ron Paul’s name out there, even if it is in jest.

Ron Paul Says Barack Obama Is Confused

In another excellent interview from Neil Cavuto with Ron Paul on FOX Business News Paul agrees with Obama that things are going to get worse, but disagrees on the solution.

Paul says that Obama is confused about whether he can create jobs and run the economy toward recovery.

One of my personal favorite campaign trail stump speech segments from Ron Paul was when he said that he doesn’t want to run the economy and couldn’t even if he did. Those are the last words any modern day campaign manager wants to hear come out of their candidates mouth, even if the words ring true.

So almighty Obama believes he can create jobs and spend our way back to prosperity. Ron Paul believes no one can “run” the economy and more spending is the last thing we need since that is what got us into this mess in the first place. I suppose we are going to find out who is right. My money is on the Congressman.

Ron Paul, Inflation Tour Guide

In a video recently released by Ron Paul, he shows off some old pieces of paper that used to be money in Germany. He demonstrates hyperinflation using his “visual aids” then reveals that he’s not just worried about the economy. He is worried about “political chaos”, the kind of chaos that gave rise to Hitler.

I really like this video. I think if/when Ron Paul runs in 2012 this kind of video should be the norm. The video is labeled with the number 1, suggesting there will be more. I’m looking forward to them.

Anthropogenic Global Warming or an Ice Age, Which Is It? (PART 2/2)

January 16th, 2009 12:12 pm  |  by  |  Published in Activism, Commentary, Environment  |  0

Barack Obama just crowned socialist and environmental regulator Carol Browner as our Climate Change Czar. Propelled by her English degree, Browner is a vocal proponent of Anthropogenic Global Warming Theory. What if her pet theory is wrong?

sunOK, just to bare some personal baggage first, in the not-so-distant past I once believed in anthropogenic global warming theory. After I watched Al Gore’s 2006 “An Inconvenient Truth,” I practically danced in fright around my dining room table wondering if my incandescent light bulbs were going to ruin the world. [Anthropogenic, by the way, is just a big science word that means man-made, and the theory in a nutshell holds that mankind is 1) creating large amounts of carbon dioxide and 2) this CO2 is and will significantly increase the earth's temperature, which has all types of ramifications for those, like me, who like to surf. The idea is that too much CO2 in the atmosphere serves to trap heat within the earth's atmosphere and significantly increases the global temperature.] (photos from NASA)

I earned a chemical engineering degree by passing a lot of math and science tests with the help of Caaaptaaaain Calculator!, and in my professional life I remain a very inquisitive engineer. This, of course, does not make me an expert on climate change, so at least Carol Browner and I share this much in common. However, quite surprisingly to even me, after my 2006 scare, I became decently well-read on the topic. I read/skimmed the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) report since I figured if American taxpayers are kind enough to pay UN about 30-40% of the cost, I might as well read it. [Well over $25 million USD see page 4/11 and 4/7 here, it's all paid via the IPCC's Trust Fund, which gets paid by our federal government.]

Support Ron Paul’s Federal Reserve Board Abolition Act

D o w n s i z e r – D i s p a t c h

Quote of the Day: “We got into this crisis because power was overly concentrated relative to knowledge. What has been going on for the past several months is more consolidation of power. This is bound to make things worse. Just as Nixon’s bureaucrats did not have the knowledge to go along with the power they took when they instituted wage and price controls, the Fed and the Treasury cannot possibly have knowledge that is proportional to the power they currently exercise in financial markets.” – Arnold Kling

Subject: End the FED

The stock market rises and then crashes. Housing prices soar and then plummet. The Federal Reserve causes these booms and busts by constantly expanding and contracting the supply of money and credit.

Credit expansion by the Federal Reserve increases the demand for producer assets and investment instruments. This causes bubbles in things like stocks and housing. When the Fed then contracts credit to avoid systemic price inflation the asset bubbles burst.

This is the history of the Federal Reserve — booms and busts, mixed with episodes of economic stagnation and high inflation like the 1970s.

Even before the Fed was created in 1913 government manipulation of money and credit caused repeated bubbles and contractions. One big source of this mischief was government imposed exchange ratios between gold, silver, and the U.S. dollar. When these hardwired exchange ratios didn’t match reality, problems ensued.

Ron Paul, Gaza, and the BIS – (The Gaza Slaughter Epilogue II)

Ron Paul reveals why he was so outraged at the recent House vote condemning Gaza. Here’s one more reason he should be outraged.

Ron Paul2WASHINGTON, D.C. – I remarked in my last article “Ron Paul Shows Some Outrage (The Gaza Slaughter – Epilogue)” that Congressman Paul (R-TX) was visibly upset at the end of his 2-minute opposition speech to House Resolution 34 which called “on all nations to lay blame both for the breaking of the calm and for subsequent civilian casualties in Gaza precisely where blame belongs, that is, on Hamas.”

For those who do not follow Ron Paul quite so much, this is unusual as he typically constrains himself from showing anger.  Well, this 4-minute video released Tuesday night by the Campaign for Liberty reveals why.  The House had called a last minute vote the night before and started the session one hour earlier than normal.  Dr. Paul claims he was notified at the last minute and was barely able to arrive and interject with his opposition for two minutes. (photo)

Paul also related that Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and FDIC Chairman Sheila Bair are skipping their appointments with the House Finance committee to fly off to the Swiss Alps to meet with the international banking cartel known as the BIS, or Bank of International Settlements. My guess is that their conversation will cover the price of gold at some point.
