“We are being ripped off!” “There’s going to be a revolt in this country!”
These are the words of Gerald Celente on the latest Lew Rockwell podcast. Celente certainly has a sense for the melodramatic, but the interesting thing is that so many of theĀ predictions found in his Trends Journal newsletter have come true.
He claims that the panic of 2008 will become the collapse of 2009 and there’s going to be “the worst living conditions that we’ve ever faced in this country.” These words are quite scary and almost unthinkable for most of us.
I include myself among those skeptical of such claims, but every time I look at the writing on the wall it becomes more difficult to remain skeptical.
Celente talks about taking protective measures for the coming “collapse” years in the interview as well. Most of these measures have been echoed by others: buy and hold physical gold, keep a store of dollars out of the banks in case of a bank holiday, keep a store of emergency food around, and own and know how to use a gun to protect yourself and your family.
Interestingly enough, this morning I was listening to Glenn Beck’s radio show and he had on the author of the book “The Survivors Club: The Secrets and Science that Could Save Your Life“, Ben Sherwood. They discussed surviving in general and surviving financial calamity in particular. I’ve not read the book, but the interview certainly piqued my interest.
Sherwood made the point that not many people will put forth the effort to prepare themselves (and their loved ones) for “high consequence, low risk” events. They didn’t discuss the details of what to do, only the psychology behind it. The Celente interview gives us one view on what can be done to prepare for such events.
When a man who has correctly predicted geo-political and economic events from the 1980’s onward it may be time to swallow the skepticism and heed his advice.
