It happened to "liberal" and "freedom" in the last 50 years, and there's no doubt "capitalism", "free market", and "security" are in the middle of pretty invasive surgery as we speak. I think it’s important to not throw “global society” into the basket of “evil” per se, but you’re right to be on the lookout for such manipulations in the meanings of words.
