Election Day 2008 Ruminations, Riots, And The Future Without Ron Paul

If Barack Obama should happen to lose today in some kind of “Do You Believe in Miracles?” moment, will there be rioting in the streets of cities and towns across the U.S.A.?  I’m not sure, but it isn’t out of the realm of possibility. Heck, there may even be riots of celebration if Obama wins. In either case, the losers will be those of us who fancy America as a place our Founders would still be proud to call home.

Those of us paying attention know that our Founding Fathers — upon witnessing the America of 2008 — would be running around yelling their era’s equivalent of “WTF?” to anyone within earshot. So what do liberty lovers do after the battle between Barry O’Messiah and John McChameleon reveals a winner this evening?

I’ve written wishfully about the potential for Ron Paul running again in 2012. The bottom line is that the chances are quite remote of that wish coming to fruition. We need to find a candidate who is similar to Ron Paul, but without some of the perceived negative baggage that Paul brought along with him. We need a candidate that hasn’t had quasi-racist words published under his/her name. We need a candidate who is younger. We need a candidate who has held executive office such as a current or former governor. We need a smart candidate who has a history of voting on the side of freedom and isn’t afraid to vote “No” when appropriate.

We need a candidate who cannot be dismissed and marginalized as easily as Ron Paul. Most of all we need a real fighter and competitor who truly wants to be a President like George Washington instead of like Woodrow Wilson. I have a particular candidate in mind that meets all of these desires. No, not Sarah Palin. (She is an anti-freedom puppet). And no, not even Jesse Ventura.  (He is too easily marginalized).

Meet former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson.

Johnson was Governor of New Mexico for 8 years (1995-2003). He served two four year terms and could not serve more due to term limits. He is just 55 years old. He is strongly against the War on Drugs which he himself believes makes him unelectable, but recent polls on the issue suggest otherwise. In fact, one would think with the baby boomers coming of age in the 60’s and 70’s now making up a large number of older voters, the time is ripe for mass support of a candidate advocating ending the failed “War on Drugs”.

Johnson endorsed Ron Paul in the GOP primary. He was an invited speaker at Ron Paul’s “Rally For The Republic”. He is a strong proponent of private industry and sensible, free market solutions. He is an accomplished triathlete and successfully climbed Mt. Everest in 2003. There is no doubt he has an inherent competitive spirit and a history of honesty that can help draw support from no-nonsense anti-establishment voters. He also appeals to the more establishment voters on the left and right, in light of his eight successful years running New Mexico as Governor.

In my view there is no better choice to carry the message of liberty into the future. Now the only question remaining is…  Will he run in 2012?

There WILL be riots whether Obama wins or loses… at least in L.A., but possibly also Louisiana, D.C., Chicago, Detroit, Miami, and Atlanta.
