The Great Libertarian Opportunity, Palin-Paul 2012?

The Libertarian candidate for President in 2000 was Harry Browne. That year he released a campaign book with the title, “The Great Libertarian Offer“. The positive libertarian sentiment in that book was both educational and inspiring to me and many other liberty seeking individuals. There has been quite a bit of talk in the past year about the demise of the Republican party to the delight of loyal and liberal Democrats everywhere. This demise represents a great opportunity for libertarian ideas to either reinforce the Libertarian Party itself or modify the Republican Party’s neo-conservatism into libertarian conservatism.

I say opportunity because the outlook for liberty at this point in our country’s history is quite bleak. The popular political culture pendulum is swinging far to the left with Barack Obama’s pending victory. Following 9/11 Neo-conservative Right ideals were in vogue. The question remains what happens when the rebound occurs from the current move to the left? This is where libertarians can capitalize if the cards are played properly.

FDIC Gives Alpha Bank the Axe!

“When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.” – Ben Franklin. Is everyone prepared for Guy Fawkes Day and Halloween?

Although in my estimation the bailout saved GMAC’s lending arm, I was correct in this article’s prediction (“WaMu Gets the FDIC WHAM-O!“) that there have only been a few minor bank failures in the last few weeks.  I expect a drought of closures with a possible drizzle (one or at most two minor banks) until November 4th, after that, regardless of the bailout expect a steady drizzle and possible downpour (few more major banks and a bunch of smaller ones to kick the bucket) before we close 2008.

With the addition of the three banks below, the Bank Body Count (BBC) for 2008 now stands at 16:

  • Alpha Bank and Trust, Alpharetta, Georgia ($354 million in assets, ~$3 million in uninsured deposits, ~$158 million cost to the FDIC)  Date of Demise: 10/24/2008
  • Meridian Bank, Eldred, Illinois ($39 million in assets, ~$14 million cost to the FDIC) Date of Demise: 10/10/2008
  • Main Street Bank, Northville, Michigan ($98 million in assets, ~$36 million cost to the FDIC) Date of Demise: 10/10/2008

Again, HAVE YOU PROTECTED YOURSELF?

First understand the FDIC and the nature of the banking system. Here’s the fastest lesson I can manage. Try my other writings or just search the net for more information.

Police State Stomps on Iraq Veteran’s Face as McBama Sanctions Attack on Freedom of Speech – The Palin Response, Ron Paul, and an Iraq War Vet’s Testimony (Part 2/2)

October 27th, 2008 8:54 am  |  by  |  Published in Liberty  |  0

The response from the McBama duos on the tragic events outside their final presidential debate as a police horse stomped on an Iraq war veteran’s face and attacked the crowd. I also review the origins of free speech as I see it, share Ron Paul’s thoughts on police states, and what Iraq is really like.

sidewalk just a sidewalk“Contemplate the mangled bodies of your countrymen, and then say ‘what should be the reward of such sacrifices?’ Bid us and our posterity bow the knee, supplicate the friendship and plough, and sow, and reap, to glut the avarice of the men who have let loose on us the dogs of war to riot in our blood and hunt us from the face of the earth? If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”

- Samuel Adams, American Revolutionary War, 18th century

“Mangled bodies, indeed.”

- Me, the rEVOLution, in the 21st century.

faceFirst, a short aside on police states before I start.  Many people seem to be clueless as to the overall purpose of a police state.  Sure some are upset that they’ve lost their privacy, that the government tracks every credit card purchase they make, can bug any phone call (USA PATRIOT and FISA Acts), and even brutalize fellow citizens, like the photo of Iraq veteran Nick Morgan that you see here.  Even if they are quite upset at the government for spying on them, but they utterly fail to grasp WHY?  Control is of course important, but why is it so critical?  So let me start with the most important words in this article.  If you only remember one thing from this article, please let it be this.

The True Purpose of a Police State is typically Economic Suppression. And even if governments do not intend this, it is nearly always the end result for all of the historical cases I have studied.  Of course, the only exception to this is when the mighty majority (frequently ethnic or sexist) seek to suppress a minority, otherwise known as democracy.  Try studying Pinochet’s Chile, South Africa, Yeltsin’s Russia, Tiananmen (Naomi Klein, The Shock Doctrine, 2007), Mao’s China (Jung Chang, Mao: The Unknown Story, 2006), Nazi Germany (Robert Evans, The Coming of the Third Reich, 2003), even Pol Pot’s Cambodia (David Chandler, Blood Brother Number One, 1999) to name just a few.  Of course, when I write economic suppression, I do not mean for every single citizen.  Police states usually intend to enrich the privileged elite at the top at the cost of us peons.

The Bob Barr Interview That Should Be On NBC Nightly News

Bob Barr did what I believe to be the best interview of the campaign thus far for Franklin Pierce University on October 21st. The interview was extremely substantive and revealed a few insights I’ve always been curious about such as Barr’s true position on opening up another investigation of 9/11 and how he ended up being tricked into doing that interview for the Borat movie.

The interview is typically amateurish as it is for the campus television station, but it is well worth your time. This is the interview that should be on NBC Nightly News or some other main stream media outlet. It’s probably too long for the soundbite culture those outlets live in though.

The interview is in three parts. Watch them below.

Ron Paul on the Lew Rockwell Show

Ron Paul was a guest on the Lew Rockwell Show on October 26, 2008 to talk about the current economic crisis. One of my favorite quotes by the good doctor was:

[Greenspan] has joined the gang of liberals and socialists to blame the free market for all the problems.

Police State Stomps on Iraq Veteran’s Face as McBama Sanctions Attack on Freedom of Speech: The Story of the Hempstead 15 (Part 1/2)

What? Yet another event the media completely missed? After multiple attempts to engage McBama to answer their questions, the Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) led a peaceful march on the last McCain-Presidential Debate and were met with 30 mounted police and a horde of others in riot gear. The mounted police stamped on an Iraq war veteran’s face and attacked the crowd. Ron Paul supporter and veteran Adam Kokesh was arrested as well.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” – The First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States

HEMPSTEAD, NEW YORK – At the gates of Hofstra University, a peaceful march by 400 members of Iraq Veterans Against the War and independent citizens was met by over 100 policemen who attacked on the protestors when they refused to retreat and stop exercising their freedom of speech on October 15.  The marchers were attempting to ask a couple questions of Senators Barack Obama and John McCain as they were debating.  Nick Morgan, Iraq war veteran, was trampled by a police horse on his ribs and face, breaking his orbital in three places, as shown in the photos. See this video, which is a must-see that I chose as the best at representing the events.

SPOOF: Ron Paul Promises To Return When Country Needs Him Most

As the McBama presidential “race” nears its thrilling conclusion, I follow a Ron Paul spoof from TheOnion.com with a serious question. Who will lead the Revolution next?

As can be seen in many of my past and upcoming articles, it is a little tough to get good unbiased news these days.  For instance, most people still think corporate giants General Electric and Microsoft make jet engines, light bulbs and Windows, not run NBC and MSNBC (you get one guess as to where the MS came from).

In desperation for some actual news, I find myself relying more and more on www.TheOnion.com, which I suppose is a little silly since everything they publish is simply not true.   Perhaps there is not much difference between them and Mainstream Media, after all!  Check out the below and then I have a question for you.

Ron Paul Is Now An Official Write-In Ballot in California !!!

October 26th, 2008 1:41 am  |  by  |  Published in Activism, ballot access, Big Government, Bob Barr, Election, John McCain, Liberty, Obama, Politics, Ron Paul  |  3 Responses

There are Four Official Write-In Candidates on the ballot in California:  Chuck Baldwin (Constitution Party), James Harris (Socialist Workers Party), Frank Moore (independent), and, NOW, RON PAUL! If you write in EITHER of these Candidates, your votes WILL be counted, and the public and the politicians WILL see those numbers.

However, the fact that it is the very state of California has even greater significance.  There are 55 electors in California.  There are 3 electors in Montana, and 9 in Louisiana, the two states for which Ron Paul is on the ballot.  That is a total of 68 total electoral votes which he could potentially win.  In a close election, he could actually throw the election to the House of Representatives.

For anyone who has been dissatisfied with the two current choices, or who has been wanting to vote for a 3rd party candidate, but unable, LET EVERYONE YOU KNOW in those three states about their choices.  Let your vote count this election!

Ron Paul Says Obama Offers Nothing

Ron Paul had some choice words yesterday on Fox News for Barack Obama (and John McCain) when he spoke to Neil Cavuto again. Paul again rails against the government’s attempts to manage the economy and strikes a chord for true free market capitalism. Here are some choice quotes from the interview.

“[Obama] offers nothing.”

“Raising taxes would be a disaster.”

“We need to get back to the basics.”

“People in government aren’t smart enough [to control the economy].”

“We’ve been living way beyond our means.”

“The system that was set up in 1971 is going to end.”

“I don’t think more socialism is what we need.”

Is Barack Obama “The One”?

I write a brief reply to an Obama fan who compared the Barackcuda with “The Matrix”‘s Neo

To fellow Revolutionaries, or better yet, those who are going to vote Barack Obama for President in 12 days-

A close friend and mentor of mine, recently sent me an euphoric email about what a great POTUS Senator Barack Obama will make. Being a little lazy, I more or less replied by listing my articles.  As for my friend, there is hope, we voted for the same Congressman from Texas in the Republican primary.  However, it is NOT the “Audacity of Hope,” nor is it the hope from Bill Clinton’s favorite little town of Hope, Arkansas, which he talked about even as he bombed Yugoslavia and sent Black Hawks into Mogadishu.  It is the Hope that this Revolution will succeed.  And don’t worry, Obama’s winning has been already been planned for, see the last link… there are some real gems near the end from a fellow Nolan Chart columnist who is an inspiration to me.

If anyone else has an excellent source anywhere on the net that is just the most eye-opening piece on Obama they have ever read, whether in favor or against, please feel free to share at the bottom.  What is a little  humorous is that I too picked up a copy of Barack’s bestseller at an airport in my pre-Revolution days.  I remember thinking as I read it “Boy, now THAT’S power hungry!” and left it in the shop.
