In the following pages, I offer nothing more than simple facts, plain arguments and common sense; and have no other preliminaries to settle with the reader, other than that he will divest himself of prejudice and prepossession, and suffer his reason and his feelings to determine for themselves; that he will put on, or rather that he will not put off, the true character of a man, and generously enlarge his views beyond the present day. - Thomas Paine

Reader - Imagine you are in a room, alone with 20 American soldiers for one day.  At sunset, all their bodies thud to the floor, stone dead.  At dawn, 20 more enter the room and again die at sunset. It repeats every day for 7 years.   It will repeat tomorrow.  This is what I know of their story, their sad statistics.

Amid all the talk about the economy and election, Americans have forgotten the casualties of the War on Terror.  This is your  reminder.

As predicted in my August article, the total dead in Afghanistan has set a new high for American war deaths, even though there are still three months remaining in the year. To date, 134 Americans have died in 2008, breaking the 2007 record of 117 deaths. Total coalition deaths are also at an all-time high of 236 in 2008 as shown by the below chart.

dead

In the last four months, 158 coalition soldiers have died, and the American percentage of that works out to about 1 soldier per day.

This is the first soldier in the room with you each day.

A total 609 Americans soldiers have died in Afghanistan, 4,177 in Iraq, and another 444 American contractors, bringing the total to 5,230 Americans dead in the War on Terror.

“Only” 270 Americans have died in Iraq this year, an average of almost exactly 1 death per day. However, this figure is sharply reduced from 2007, when it was closer to 3 soldiers dying per day. I remind the Reader that 2008 is an election year.  I remind the reader that Dick Cheney once said that removing Saddam Hussein from power was not worth a single American soldier’s life in 1994. See “Preemptive War and Freedom Video Clips

This is the second soldier in the room with you each day.

Next, I also want to note that there are also staggering levels of suicides by American military veterans.  I encourage you to read this my new article “ Complaint re: Veteran Suicide Cover-Up by Department of Veteran Affairs Mental Health Division” for the full details.  Per this 2007 email from Dr. Ira Katz, the Veteran’s Affairs Head of Mental Health:

“There are about 18 suicides per day among America’s 25 million veterans. This follows from CDC findings that 20% of suicides are among veterans. It is supported by the CBS numbers. Veteran Affair’s own data demonstrate 4-5 suicides per day among those who receive care from us.”

(CBS 2008 Article) (CBS 2007 Article) (Katz Email from CBS)

To do the calculation, in the 7-year span of the Global War on Terror approximately 46,000 veterans have committed suicide.

These are the remaining 18 soldiers in the room with you each day.  Now you know all twenty.

[Aside: I would like to remark here that I view it as an utter disgrace that this ghastly figure does not make many of those who claim that there is nothing morally wrong with America's Military Empire of over 700 bases in over 130 countries think twice about sending our young men and women to die, to have their minds irreparably scarred, all to police and exert an authoritarian control over a world population that widely fears and hates our armies and our President. What kind of mind can sanction such needless evil, such needless death?  America, it is time to sheath our swords, they are so useless. ]

Please understand that it is impossible to separate how many have died for the War on Terror as opposed to the Korean, Vietnam, Persian Gulf, etc. conflicts.  This is obviously due to the fact that Veteran’s Affairs does not have the time, resources, or initiative to get this done.  However, I do not believe it is either of the first two options.  Why?  Well, as George Dewey reported here, the Veteran’s Affairs hospital in Boise, Idaho had enough spare time to investigate, then build and document its legal case against a veteran’s daughter who spilled a soda in their cafeteria.  They are now threatening her with a year in jail.  One would think that perhaps trying to reach out and prevent, perhaps even trying to reduce these suicides would have had a higher priority with Veteran’s Affairs.

Okay enough ripping at VA.  Check out the other article, I promise there is a lot more in it.

All wars since WWII have been undeclared wars, which I write for the umpteenth time is unconstitutional per the Constitution of the United States, Article 1, Section 8, Clause 11.

Although I now view these wars as merely symptoms of a greater disease, I am morally compelled to publish this since very few others seems to care with the NFL, the Election, and the Economy.  You can read about this disease I discovered starting here “The Money Matrix - Prelude (PART 1/15)
