libertyforone,

I'm not as upset as the article may make me sound. My point is not necessarily that this particular case is especially bad it is that the marginalization of RP continues and this is just really really poor and quite lazy reporting.

Whether or not Ron Paul agrees with the quote doesn't matter. It is just another example of the media putting words in Paul's mouth attempting to discredit him.

And I'm certainly no Lew Rockwell hater. I'm with him on about 95% of the things he says, including this quote.

Enjoy,
Marc

Ok, Marc,
is this article simply about a mistake in reporting? If so, why so upset? Of all the injustices that Ron Paul has gone through this is next to nothing. Frankly, it looks more like a compliment - such as assigning a Jefferson quote to Paul.

libertyforone,

I can't definitely speak for Marc, but I'm pretty sure he's not a Lew hater. For me, at least, this is simply about CNN's shoddy reporting.

Well, I suppose it was a misquote, but I think the harm goes to Lew if anyone and I am sure he didn't mind that much. The two of them are best friends and who knows, maybe they wrote it together?

I am confused as to why this poster seems so outraged by this. Do you really think that Ron Paul wouldn't agree with the sentiment? (forgive the double negatives there).

Certainly, this could have been cleaner reporting and there appears to be a mistake made, but an apology to Ron? Why not apologize to Lew? After all, it was his quote that was stolen.

Sadly, reading between the lines it seems that a lot of Ron Paul supporters are Lew Rockwell haters and that fills me with regret. Both are one of the few patriots we have in this country, so why rag on either one? To do so just weakens the cause of liberty in general. Especially when the two men have worked side by side for decades, are great friends and have worked very hard for liberty for all of us.

I do so hope this petty infighting can stop. Ron Paul did great, so Cato and Reason got jealous. So they attack Paul and throw Lew under the bus. Then the LP picks an idiot like Bob Barr to represent them because he is a smarmy as Paul is genuine. The Paul picks a racist, sexist, bigot like Baldwin to support because he is angry at the LP for being dicks. Now, millions of supposed liberty supporters will vote for a man (baldwin) who is against free markets, he is against liberty for gays and women, he is for the government sponsored shooting and maiming of a brown person who possibly had marijuana on him and could have been an illegal alien, and his main platform is to prevent anyone from outside the U.S. from trading with us.

How did we get here? With petty insults hurled at each other. Now we, the defenders of liberty have no one at all to vote for this election, Barr is a liar and Baldwin is against liberty if you are not a white male, and once again, it appears that insults are being hurled at Lew Rockwell once more.

How can we ever have any hope if we are shooting each other as one person gains some success in the fight against liberty?

ENOUGH!

Paige,

If they said it was on his website why would he feel the need to ask him if he agrees with it? I agree with you, but they certainly didn't make it clear. It was posted on a site that is NOT his website and the words were NOT his own. The site they referenced is not even where the quote originally appeared. It was extremely misleading, and they should apologize.

They weren't attributing the quote to Dr. Paul. If they were attributing it him they wouldn't have asked if he agreed with the quote.

They just said it was posted on his website. That's where the mistake was, assuming it was an official website.
