The Next American War of Terror in Pakistan Continues – Marriott Hotel Bombing Portends Blowback Event on American Soil

Welcome to next evolution of the Global War of Terror (GWOT) in Pakistan. Open your eyes and see the blowback possibilities for a Marriott Bombing on American soil. Bush is reducing our national security, as he has done since taking office in 2000.

It is pretty hard to miss a war, but the American press is trying their best. Since the American mainstream media is (mostly) ignoring this war, I will do my best to inform you. As I am short on time, I refer you to my past articles, which are at the end of the article. This article will take the form of a timeline, which will  be incomplete but still hopefully give you a good idea of what is occurring in Pakistan. Quite frankly, it’s a mess. But first let’s start with a couple quotes:

Dr. Ron Paul (when permitted to speak) at the 07 Republican Presidential Debate on our logic in attacking Iraq instead of Bin Laden following 9/11

“Let me see if I get this right we need to borrow $10 Billion from China, and then we give it to Musharraf, who is a Military Dictator, who Overthrew an Elected Government, then We Go to War, Losing all these Lives, Promoting Democracy?”

Jake, the Champion of the Constitution, on 9/22/2008, in a vehement, furious tone to his unrestrained, unconstitutional government:

Let me see if I get this right. We borrowed $10 Billion from China, then gave it Pakistan’s military dictator, and now we send in our troops into harm’s way KNOWING that the Pakistani military is going to fire at them with warplanes, bullets, and missiles they bought WE SUPPLIED TO THEM, just to give Bush a n extra chance to manipulate the November election by killing this bin Laden fugitive who has been living in caves for seven years that the Taliban wanted to handover to us for free^ – a guy we do not even have the legal evidence to prove in a court of law that he caused 9/11!”*

As I wrote here, the Associated Press and UK’s The Guardian have reported an anonymous American official confirmed an American attack helicopter strike on September 4th utilizing ground troops killed at least 15 Pakistanis, some reportedly women and children, in the small village of Jala Khel, 1 mile from the Afghanistan border. It is the first confirmed incursion by American ground forces, though unmanned Predator drone attacks are already infamous in the tribal areas for their high civilian casualty counts.

The Times Online reported September 14 that according to villagers, the troops burst in, guns blazing, killing a 50-year-old cattleherder and woodcutter, six children, two women and a male relation. Among the dead were a three-year-old girl and a two-year-old boy. The gunfire brought neighbors running out of their homes. As people headed towards the house to see what had caused the commotion, the commandos opened fire, killing 10 more villagers.

The Financial Times reported at least 12 people were believed to have been killed yesterday in a US missile attack carried out by Predator drones in a NW border region, prompting condemnation by the country’s officials. It was the first attack since General Ashfaq Kayani, Pakistan’s army chief, said only his country had the right to carry out such attacks on suspected militant targets on its soil. President George W. Bush is alleged to have secretly approved orders in July for US special forces to launch attacks in Pakistan without the approval of its government. “The coalition forces and the militants are both working to destabilise Pakistan,” said Owais Ghani, the governor of the region, after the attack.

The warnings from the previous day are posted at a blog site titled Pakistan’s Foreign Policy Association:

The Pakistani military on Friday warned that it could strike back at U.S. soldiers if they conducted cross-border raids from Afghanistan, escalating the tension between the allies as U.S. missiles again pounded suspected militant hideouts. Pakistani army chief Gen. Ashfaq Kayani has said American incursions won’t be tolerated.

The statement by the Pakistani military at the end of a two-day meeting said the government and military agreed on the need to defend the nation. Pakistan stated it would not allow foreign troops onto its soil and Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity would be defended at all cost.

The Daily Times of Pakistan reported that ex-spy Bruce Riedel, Washington DC think tank member and ex-CIA, said in an interview with the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), “We need to get the Pakistanis to see this as their war, and that’s going to require some major new initiatives on the American side. Commando raids and Predator strikes are not a long-term solution to this problem In that kind of charged political atmosphere, these kinds of operations [cross-border assaults] can easily further incite anti-Americanism.”

[My comment is that this is just typical CFR smokescreen, Bush is going to keep attacking, possibly in an effort to take out bin Laden before the November election. No way will the USA listen to this ex-spook, the article is just a propaganda release targeted at pacifying the Pakistanis.]

Reuters and the Financial Times reports firing by Pakistani troops forced U.S. military helicopters to turn back to Afghanistan after they crossed into Pakistani territory in the early hours of Monday, Pakistani security officials said.  Iran’s Press TV reported that tribesmen along with the security forces responded to the NATO attack and after a four-hour firefight prevented the foreign forces from entering Pakistan territory to hunt for wanted militants. Also some US drones violated the Pakistani airspace but after facing Pakistani fighter jet fire fled the area.

CNN reports a massive suicide truck bomb went off at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad. 57 are reported killed, and approximately 200 wounded. Two Americans Department of Defense officials were also killed although they were probably just there for a war meeting, not actually defending the hotel. The bomb left behind a crater 18 meters wide and 7 meters deep. The Associated Press remarked that Pakistan’s top leaders were to attend a dinner at the hotel, but changed the location just prior to the bombing.

My comments are simply that Americans should expect some form of blowback from Pakistanis in the near or distant future, probably on American soil if they can manage it. Although this action will be morally wrong, similar to 9/11, can you really blame them? You simply cannot aggress and start a war on another country’s soil without expecting to be paid back in kind. We would do the same thing in reverse if the Russians or Chinese invaded us. Do you really think our government is making us more safe? You might wake up to a Pakistani bomb attack one day. Do not, however, wonder why since I just told you.

[For more on blowback, I highly recommend Chalmers Johnson's Blowback, all the more powerful since it was written in 2000 before 9/11.]
