Ron Paul Has A Fan In Former Bush Advisor

Doug Wead will be speaking at Ron Paul’s Rally For The Republic. He was a special assistant to President George H. W. Bush. He is writing a series of stories in his blog related to Ron Paul leading up to the rally. All of them are wonderful. The August 10th entry is entitled, “Ron Paul: The Prophet“. In it Wead is astounded that someone in the House Of Representatives was prophetic regarding the events of September 11th a full year before it occurred.

So it comes as a bit of shock to encounter an honest thinker, and one in government!  And to find one in the United States House of Representatives, where the members are perpetually politicking for re-election, is astounding.

But listen to this. Fully a year before the events of September 11, 2001, Ron Paul expressed his alarm at American foreign policy arrogance, particularly how it was increasingly seen in Islamic countries.

“The cost in terms of liberties lost and the unnecessary exposure to terrorism are difficult to determine, but in time it will become apparent to all of us that foreign interventionism is of no benefit to American citizens, but is instead a threat to our liberties.”  – Ron Paul (spoken in the year 2000.)

He followed this up with his August 12th article, “You’re Next: Ron Paul’s warning“.

Bush and Gang Prepares to Unleash Hell on Iran. Is the Georgian War a Stepping Stone?

Operation Brimstone and the Georgian War may combine to form WWIII. The Dogs of War are running amok. Do you care?

mapDan Alba’s latest “‘Russia v. Georgia’ and the Media Spin Machine” did a great job exposing the American media spin on our world’s newest war in South Ossetia started by Georgia (not to be confused with the state with the tasty peaches). In this article I want to warn again of war with Iran, and of a possible WWIII and nuclear holocaust.

[Simultaneously, despite wars continuing or starting up in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the Georgia region, today in Beijing our fearless leader and alleged murderer George W. Bush was videotaped relaxing, laughing, hugging, and slapping the bodacious bottoms of two lovely bikini-clad beach volleyball players from California.]

In July, I highlighted that House Concurrent Resolution 362 would enable war against Iran in the form of a total air, sea, and land blockade.  This bill passed the House and is now in the Senate as Senate Resolution 580, with 32 co-sponsors.  For those who would say such a blockade is NOT an act of war I remind you of the Union naval blockade of the South in the War of Succession, and the British blockades during the War of 1812, which led to the burning of Washington DC in 1814.

The Great Gold Robbery of 1933

August 13th, 2008 1:01 pm  |  by  |  Published in Banking, Big Government, Economics, Federal Reserve, law, Libertarianism, Liberty, Money, Politics, Taxes  |  0

Today’s article at the Ludwig von Mises Institute , written by , discusses the tragic even 75 years ago during the Great Depression, thought it would be a good and proper thing to confiscate all monetary gold from American citizens.

It’s been 75 years since the federal government, on the spurious grounds of fighting the Great Depression, ordered the confiscation of all monetary gold from Americans, permitting trivial amounts for ornamental or industrial use. This happens to be one of the episodes Kevin Gutzman and I describe in detail in our new book, Who Killed the Constitution? The Fate of American Liberty from World War I to George W. Bush. From the point of view of the typical American classroom, on the other hand, the incident may as well not have occurred.

A key piece of legislation in this story is the Emergency Banking Act of 1933, which Congress passed on March 9 without having read it and after only the most trivial debate. House Minority Leader Bertrand H. Snell (R-NY) generously conceded that it was “entirely out of the ordinary” to pass legislation that “is not even in print at the time it is offered.” He urged his colleagues to pass it all the same: “The house is burning down, and the President of the United States says this is the way to put out the fire. [Applause.] And to me at this time there is only one answer to this question, and that is to give the President what he demands and says is necessary to meet the situation.”

Emergency Effort to Put Barr on DC Ballot

August 13th, 2008 12:54 pm  |  by  |  Published in Activism, Big Government, Bob Barr, Election, Liberty, Politics  |  0

Today I received a message from the Maryland Libertarian Party asking for help getting Bob Barr on the ballot on Washington, DC.  If anyone can help out, please do:

Greetings fellow friends of liberty,

The situation in DC is dire. We only have eight days left to put Barr
on the DC ballot. We desperately need volunteers (even non-DC
residents can accompany us to collect signatures) and money to hire
paid professional petitioners to supplement our efforts. If we don’t
raise some quick cash the only candidates on the DC ballot will be
Obama, McCain, McKinney and, I think, the Socialist Workers Party
candidate–and possibly Nader who is also circulating them.

A chip-in is being set up now.

Also, Nancy is having another of her famous rooftop fundraising
parties on Saturday night!

We’re trying to get Bob Barr, Dick Heller–yes, THAT Dick Heller–as
delegate to Congress against Eleanor Holmes Norton (who will otherwise
be unopposed again) and former Ron Paul delegate candidate Damien Ober
for shadow senator all on the ballot in DC.

If we get them on the ballot and get 7500 in a race (as certainly
Heller would–the DC GOP is supporting him as an LP candidate!), then
the LP gets “major party” status!

Please bump our thread on RonPaulForums too:

Cheers,

If Ron Paul Is Gandalf, John McCain Is Bobby Knight

In between all of the Paris Hilton and Britney Spears gossip the entertainment magazines have a mind-numbing filler page called “Separated At Birth”. The idea is to match up two celebrities who look so similar that they could be twins.

Paris Hilton and Britney Spears

Paris Hilton and Britney Spears

Ok, these two look nothing alike. On a slightly more serious note, after Ron Paul gained such a large grassroots support base during his primary campaign the observation was made that he resembles Gandalf, the fictional wizard from the Lord Of The Rings. In fact, someone created a picture comparing the two…

Bob Barr Calls for Federal Airline Tax Refunds

August 12th, 2008 10:49 am  |  by  |  Published in Big Government, Bob Barr, Civil Liberties, Constitution, Election, Individual Responsibility, law, Liberty, Politics, Taxes  |  0

In an official press release, Bob Barr rails against the ridiculous taxes on air fare:

“Airline fares are rocketing upward, along with higher fuel prices.  And so are government taxes.  Yet even if you cancel the ticket, you still get stuck with the tax.  And if you change your flight, you get hit again.

Anyone who looks at the cost breakdown when they buy a ticket will see a federal excise tax, a security fee, and airport charges.  They make even a cheap ticket expensive for many families.  And it’s not obvious that we get good value for our money—ask yourself how safe you feel the next time you are standing in an airport security line and the TSA employees confiscate someone’s bottle of water.

Even more outrageous, though, the government keeps your money even if you change your ticket.  At least the airlines give you credit—minus a hefty ‘change fee,’’of course.  But the federal government just pockets the money.  When asked about this unfair practice, government employees say that’s just the way the regulations are written—regulations that they, of course, wrote!

The airport taxes might be small change compared to the federal income tax, but they exemplify how the government cares more about collecting money than treating taxpayers fairly.  That will change in a Barr administration.

One of the priorities of my administration will be to sharply cut and significantly simplify federal taxes.  We pay too much and spend too much time figuring out how much we have to pay.  That needs to change.  Lowering and simplifying taxes will make all of us better off, and make our country both freer and more prosperous.

I will also ensure that the American people stop paying taxes on services that they don’t receive.  Like airline travel.  We don’t let businesses get away with charging us for services that they don’t perform.  We should hold government to the same standard.  As President Barr will do.”

Is Ron Paul Too Old To Run In 2012?

August 12th, 2008 10:05 am  |  by  |  Published in Activism, campaign for liberty, Election, John McCain, Liberty, Maven Commentary, Obama, Philosophy, Politics, Ron Paul  |  4 Responses

The conventional wisdom would suggest that Ron Paul cannot run for President in 2012. John McCain is already bearing the brunt of the wrinkly and geezer jokes and McCain is about a year younger than Ron Paul.

There is a catch. McCain’s time as a tortured Vietnam POW likely took years off of his life. He has had skin cancer and is not known as an “athlete”. Ron Paul wasn’t a tortured POW, never had skin cancer, was an accomplished track star in his younger years, and exercises on a daily basis. He looks and acts younger than McCain.

Unfortunately though, the comparisons in 2012 will not be to John McCain unless McCain wins the White House. That seems unlikely, but If McCain were to win, the initial reaction would positive for Ron Paul. When it comes to health, Ron Paul beats John McCain handily. However, all bets are off when considering the actual race against the Democrat. Republicans are not likely to nominate another “old” candidate to face a young Democrat.

What is more likely is that Barack Obama will be the next President, so the comparisons will be to a candidate who could easily be Ron Paul’s son. How could Ron Paul expect to alleviate the concerns of his age? It is not likely that he could. Once the media takes hold of a political “narrative” they run with it and the mind-numbed populace follows suit. Much like Ron Paul was deemed “extreme” in 2007-2008 he would certainly face similar accusations in 2012 along with the “ancient” tag that maligns McCain today.

Never underestimate the fire of liberty that burns hot within Ron Paul’s heart. His latest efforts in putting together the grand “Rally For The Republic” in Minneapolis on September 2nd shows the freedom faithful that the voice of liberty will not be silenced.

If that fire and that voice are still around in 2012 anything can happen.

Carol, Ron Paul’s Wife In ICU in Houston Hospital

August 12th, 2008 1:39 am  |  by  |  Published in Ron Paul  |  0

The Victoria Advocate is reporting (along with others) that Ron Paul’s wife Carol is in the ICU in a Houston area hospital. Last year on this day the Iowa Straw poll occurred and Mrs. Paul was rushed to the hospital where a pacemaker was installed. More details have not been released, but it goes without saying that we are all pulling and praying for Carol Paul to get well.

Congressman Ron Paul canceled his Monday trip to Victoria to stay with his wife, who was in a Houston hospital intensive care unit after being hospitalized Thursday, a Paul spokesperson reported.

Spokeswoman Rachel Mills would not provide further information on Carol Paul’s condition, saying the family wished to keep it a private affair.

Carol Paul, known for her support and interest in Paul’s campaigns, was hospitalized for a pre-existing heart condition on Aug. 11, 2007. Doctors implanted a pacemaker, and she recovered without complications.

Time Magazine’s Positive Piece on Libertarianism

August 11th, 2008 11:29 pm  |  by  |  Published in liberator online, Libertarianism, Liberty, Politics  |  1

Over at the Advocates For Self-Government, James W. Harris reviews a surprisingly positive article on the Libertarian movement in the July 21 Issue of Time Magazine:

“Maybe you haven’t heard, but this is the year of freedom.”

So says no less than TIME magazine, in an excellent article on the libertarian movement in their July 21 issue.

The remarkably positive article is yet more proof that libertarian ideas are catching on and spreading fast.

The article describes how libertarians have grabbed the public’s attention this year:

“First there was the Ron Paul revolution, in which an avuncular 10-term Representative from Brazoria County, Texas, raised more than $34 million as a pseudo-Republican candidate, garnered more than a million primary votes and outperformed Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson, all on the back of a get-government-off-my-back platform.

Bob Barr Criticizes Bungled Maryland Police Raid

August 11th, 2008 11:08 pm  |  by  |  Published in Big Government, Bob Barr, Civil Liberties, Constitution, law, Liberty, Politics, rule of law  |  0

In a press release today, Bob Barr rails against the ridiculous situation (nearly in my back yard) in Prince Georges County, Maryland and the unconstitutional “no-knock warrants” used:

“We typically make fun of bungled police operations by saying they were conducted by the gang that couldn’t shoot straight,” notes Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president.  “In this case they could shoot straight—as a result, they killed a family’s two dogs in the midst of a misguided drug raid.

In the case in Berwyn Heights, Maryland, county police raided the mayor’s home, in a case in which he appears to have been victimized by drug smugglers, who shipped marijuana to the addresses of a half-dozen unsuspecting families.  “Rather than carefully checking the facts, including talking to the local police department, the county authorities acted rashly, illustrating how the drug war threatens the liberties of all Americans,” notes Barr, a former U.S. Attorney.  The police broke down the door rather than knocking and charged in with guns drawn.  They killed the couple’s two Labradors, one while it was running away.  Mayor Cheye Calvo spent two hours in hand-cuffs while in his boxer shorts; his mother-in-law was hand-cuffed in another room, left beside one of the dead dogs.
