The final Presidential candidate we will be rating on the Paul-O-Meter is the Green Party’s nominee, Cynthia McKinney. For a description of the Paul-O-Meter see this article. We have previously completed ratings for John McCain, Barack Obama, Bob Barr, Chuck Baldwin, and Ralph Nader.
Ron Paul is keeping up with his promise to release periodic video messages regarding the “happenings” in with our lawmakers. Here he discusses the recent House bill to bail out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac among other topics. He, as usual, relates the bailout to the devaluation of the dollar. Check it out below.
“No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury . . . nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.” – Fifth Amendment to the Constitution
Subject: End Asset Forfeiture!
Civil asset forfeiture is government seizure of property or cash owned by individuals not charged with any crime. Law enforcement agents can seize a piece of property if they merely suspect it was used in a crime, whereas its owner must prove innocence to get it back. This is an inversion of justice and a gross violation of the Bill of Rights. But if you think the federal courts will protect innocent property owners, think again . . .
Did you know that Bob Barr believes so strongly in the concept of liberty that all his phone numbers end with 1776? It’s a fact, according to the Los Angeles Times, which has a reasonably well-rounded article describing a day in the life of Bob Barr on the campaign trail.
In fact, as much as he despised Clinton, Barr thinks President Bush is worse. “What George W. Bush has done to the fabric of our constitutional government, to separation of powers, to a government of limited powers is absolutely unforgivable,” he said.
Throughout his political life, Barr has been portrayed as a humorless, pessimistic grump who never smiles. In truth, he has a rather nice smile, though his staff has to prod him to use it, sometimes by telling him a joke before he goes on TV.
At the moment, though, Barr is not smiling. He is applying lip balm to have his picture taken by a national newspaper.
I have, for the past 35 years, expressed my grave concern for the future of America. The course we have taken over the past century has threatened our liberties, security and prosperity. In spite of these long-held concerns, I have days – growing more frequent all the time – when I’m convinced the time is now upon us that some Big Events are about to occur. These fast-approaching events will not go unnoticed. They will affect all of us. They will not be limited to just some areas of our country. The world economy and political system will share in the chaos about to be unleashed.
Ron Paul’s “Rally For The Republic” originally scheduled for the Williams Arena in Minneapolis is being moved to the largest venue in Minneapolis: The Target Center. In an email this morning to Campaign For Liberty members Ron Paul released some more new information. The letter is published below. This is getting big!

If they expected us to retire quietly from the scene, the political elite are in for a surprise.
Today I am making some very big announcements.
First, from August 31 to September 2 in Minneapolis, we will host a handful of events that will shake the political establishment. Everything will culminate on Tuesday with the official launch of the Campaign for Liberty at the Rally for the Republic.
The Campaign for Liberty will be the largest organization for peace, freedom, the Constitution, and sound money in American history. It will launch in grand fashion with lots of special guests and – if the early television and print inquiries we’ve received are any indication – plenty of media attention.
I would like to personally invite you and your family to join me and thousands of others in Minneapolis for these events and send a message to the Republican Party.
Tickets will go on sale for the Rally for the Republic this Friday, July 25 @ 10AM CST. We want this to be an unforgettable day, so we are holding a ticket bomb all day Friday in the tradition of our famous money bombs. How many seats can we sell on the first day?
In patriotic fashion all tickets will cost $17.76, so you can afford to bring the whole family.
This leads me to the second big announcement. After measuring the excitement and enthusiasm, we decided that the Williams Arena at the University of Minnesota was just too small to hold you. Therefore, we are making a significant upgrade. The Rally for the Republic will now take place at the Target Center, the largest arena in Minneapolis!
This promises to be the most spirited and provocative political event of the year! We held some very large rallies during the presidential campaign, but I have never attempted anything of this scale before. Its success rests entirely in your hands.
Later this week I will announce two internationally renowned musicians as headliners for the Rally for the Republic. We’ll also be joined by rock star Aimee Allen, NBC’s Tucker Carlson, Barry Goldwater Jr., Gov. Gary Johnson, conservative stalwart Grover Norquist, former Reagan deputy Attorney General Bruce Fein, presidential historian Doug Wead, MTV’s Adam Curry, musician Mark Scibilia, and Frank Sinatra impersonator Rick Ellis. Other special guests will be announced soon.
My staff has been working overtime to provide you with three full days of entertainment. Please visit the schedule page of the website and read all about upcoming events. We also have a lodging page to help you find accommodations in Minneapolis.
Together we are taking back our government and restoring the republic. Please join me in Minneapolis to kickoff the Campaign for Liberty and support our Revolution. Can I count on you to be there?
In Liberty,
Ron Paul
P.S. I know that you have done so much already, but with both major party nominees threatening to lead us into bankruptcy at home and more wars abroad, the success of the Rally for the Republic and the launch of the Campaign for Liberty is crucial. Please do what you can to be in Minneapolis August 31 - September 2 and send a loud and clear message of freedom, peace, and prosperity.
So in other words, this is a pretty big deal and you need to be there. For some reason I had thought that the rally would be free to supporters, but I guess it’s going to cost quite a bit of money to hold such an event and $17.76 is an incredibly cheap ticket for “entertainment” these days.
It is now Ralph Nader’s turn to be viewed through the Ron Paul colored glasses of the Paul-O-Meter. The Paul-O-Meter rates the candidates on how closely they resemble Ron Paul on the issues. For a complete description and methodology of the Paul-O-Meter please see this article. Thus far we have rated Barack Obama, John McCain, Bob Barr, and Chuck Baldwin.
Doug Wead has said some nice things about Ron Paul in the past and this time he enters a fantasy land from the upcoming Campaign For Liberty rally. He hints at Ron Paul running again in 2012. Earlier we suggested a similar thing, and like Wead revealed our worry that Paul will just be perceived as too old to do so. Of course, Wead does it in his more “literary” fashion.
“Mr. Chairman,” a young skinny man in his twenties intoned very seriously, “I am Mark Farina from the Blue Grass State of Kentucky and it is my privilege to offer a motion in behalf of Kentucky Republicans committed to the constitution, that this convention, the constitutional wing of the Republican Party, go on record as unanimously, and by consent, nominating Representative Ron Paul as our candidate for president in the year 2012.”
Well, the place was momentarily stunned. I guess no one had been expecting that. And the Chairman looked like he had just been hit in the stomach. Now, the pause may have been a few seconds at most. A woman, panic written all over her face, raced to the podium, put her hand over the microphone, and started to say something to the chairman but whatever she was said was drowned out by the noise. The whole auditorium erupted in explosive cheering.
The Bob Barr campain recently broke the $500,000 barrier in total campaign funds raised. That is a nice number but the campaign is going to need a lot more dough to compete with the likes of Obama and McCain or now the much preferred: McBama.
The folks who held the first Barr money bomb on July 2nd have scheduled another for August 5th. Dubbed “Axe The Tax” because “147 years ago, the first American Income Tax was born.” The first Barrbomb raised about $44,000 which is not too shabby considering the state of the economy and that everyone and their brother is holding a money bomb these days. Hopefully the August 5th bomb brings in much more.
After reading Jeremy West’s personal statement here and Heather Saarela’s piece here , I decided to post my personal statement on the Draft as well, followed by the latest on topic from the presidential candidates, and then a collection of quotations – one of which is a little extreme for me but posted anyways for the purpose of facilitating discussion.
I, Jake, the Champion of the Constitution, utterly reject the basis for and existence of laws that draft individuals to fight wars, including the concept of compulsory military service.
The military draft is no better than slavery, and furthermore is equivalent to forcing an individual to kill other individuals . Nowhere in the Constitution is there even the slightest basis to forcibly compel individuals to fight in wars, and per the 10th Amendment which states that “the powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people” I am not constitutionally bound to obey any summons by the Selective Service.
