Ben Adler writes on Politico.com about the likely destination for Ron Paul supporters in the November election. In doing so he recaps Paul’s campaign and brings up the racist newsletters again. I guess he needed some filler for his article. Of course he has to use one of the most negative aspects of Paul’s campaign. He also erroneously reports that $5 million was raised in one day for a money bomb, when in fact more than $6 million was raised.
Overall the article concludes that Ron Paul supporters will be split amongst McCain, Barr, and Baldwin via quotes from Ron Paul volunteers and campaign staff.
“Unless McCain does make changes in his platform,” including abandoning his support for the Iraq War and renouncing deficit spending, “I don’t think [Paul supporters] will be voting for him,” said Hart, who hopes to attend the Republican Convention as a delegate for the state. “They will more likely be voting for the Constitution Party or Bob Barr.”
“It wouldn’t surprise me if a lot of the disaffected Republicans would cast their vote for Bob Barr because he’s much more conservative than John McCain,” said Jeff Greenspan, Paul’s Nevada state coordinator.
Ron Paul has inspired many citizens from coast to coast to become more active in politics. Some of these citizens have chosen to run for office. All of these office seekers for liberty deserve praise, but BJ Lawson is not your average citizen candidate. He has already won his primary in North Carolina’s 4th District and now faces the toughest challenge yet: Beating the incumbent Democrat in a Democratic district.
What gives BJ Lawson a great chance is that he is a true “old right” conservative who echoes Ron Paul on the issues. That means the Democrat cannot paint Lawson as a Bush twin. That means there can be no criticism for him “supporting the failed Iraq war”. If any Republican has a chance in North Carolina’s 4th district it is BJ Lawson.
Liberty Maven has sent along a request for an interview to the Lawson campaign. Hopefully, in the coming weeks the interview will come to fruition and you’ll see it posted here and on our interview page.
In the meantime, BJ Lawson needs campaign funds. A Ron Paul style money bomb is scheduled for June 29th, 2008. If you believe in true liberty in our lifetime… If you believe in sending another Ron Paul style unequivocally limited government conservative to Congress to fight for freedom…. then you need to head over to http://www.lawsonlibertyfund.com/ and pledge your support now and then donate on June 29th.
Here is Bob Barr being interviewed on MobLogic.tv. He discusses his transformation on the Patriot Act, War on Drugs, etc.. and talks about his liberty mustache. He also discusses foreign policy, and when pressed says he prefers Bill Clinton over George W. Bush.
A new poll in the Presidential race in Georgia shows Bob Barr at 6% and John McCain leading by only 1% over Obama. It will be interesting to see if Obama focuses his campaign on these kinds of states where Barr is expected to do fairly well.
It’s almost a no-brainer that he will, but only time will tell.
Ron Paul talks about the supplemental budget bill up for a vote this week. The bill authorizes billions of tax payer money for the Iraq War and some other items of compromise the Democrats put in to the bill. Ron Paul, perhaps obviously, says he will vote “no”.
An article published at the Nolan Chart sums up beautifully the problems many of us have with the Constitution Party as an extender of Ron Paul’s liberty message. The article also points out the shortcomings of Bob Barr’s voting record. Here is an excerpt.
To think that freedom is borne from this book as anything more than coincidence is to either not fully understand the Bible or to engage in willful ignorance of its edicts.
Let’s face it – the Bible is a tome of intolerance. It demands complete compliance by virtue of the “fact” that it was supposedly given to us by an unseen, unheard from, absentee-landlord of a god. It condones some of the most despicable acts known to humans, to include genocide (1 Samuel 15:2-3), discrimination against women (too many to mention, but start with I Corinthians 14:34-35), and blind obedience to the state (Romans 13:1-2). To base a “freedom” movement on this book is only slightly better than basing that same movement on the ramblings of Pol Pot.
It is in the shadow of this book not the rights of humanity – that the Constitution Party platform lies.
Ron Paul appeared for over 10 minutes for two segments on the Glenn Beck TV show tonight. The show had a replacement host who interestingly allowed Paul to answer his questions fully and completely, but also asked him a form of the dreaded 9-11 truth question. Ignoring that one question I think it was a pretty good appearance. The now requisite ask Ron Paul about Bob Barr and ask Bob Barr about Ron Paul interview dance was done as well. It is in two parts.
We had another message planned for this morning, but now we need URGENT ACTION on another issue.
The House is about to vote on a so-called FISA and telecom immunity compromise. The news is not good for the Fourth Amendment.
Oh, if only we had the Read the Bills Act. We haven’t seen the compromise bill yet (it was just filed and we just learned about it at 11:45 AM Eastern — while I’m writing this message). So I can’t give you the details of this bill because it could be rushed to a vote by tomorrow (not the seven days Congress should wait after reading a bill).
We don’t even have a bill number yet. But here’s why we must act now. If this compromise bill …
Budges even a bit off of the House version of the bill (which was already a barely acceptable compromise)…
Is something the Bush Administration thinks it can live with
Is being promoted because certain Democratic members are afraid of looking “soft on terrorism,” with elections just months away
Then it’s not a compromise we can live with.
And, from what we know, this new bill is all of the above things.
We’ve been writing about this issue for months. Let’s not lose at the last moment. Action is needed NOW!
Tell them you know that, in addition to the terrible grant of immunity, this bill will eviscerate constitutional privacy protections found in the Fourth Amendment.
And let them know that you are aware that Republican and Democratic administrations will be able to SPY ON AMERICANS’ international telephone calls and emails, without a warrant.
And set them straight on the fact that this new bill will punch the tissue-paper thin FISA Court protections full of holes, like Swiss cheese.
Bob Barr discusses the issues with the Washington Post’s Eric Pianin in this video. This is another in what has become a fairly standard interview for Bob Barr on the campaign trail. He keeps on preaching that lovely Ron Paul liberty message giving people who are unhappy with both McCain and Obama a choice in November.
Bob Barr appeared on FOX News today with Neil Cavuto. He discusses his relationship with Ron Paul and his recruitment of Ron Paul supporters to help his campaign. They then go on to discuss polling numbers and ballot access.
It’s interesting how much Cavuto was pushing the Ron Paul angle in this short interview while Barr seemed to be downplaying it a bit.
