I noticed you didn't point out the fact that while, yes, the corn crop that produces ethanol is a different variety than the type that produces food, quite a lot of "food corn" crops have been switched over to ethanol-producing corn crops. *This* is the cause of food shortages. The price of a tortilla in Mexico has skyrocketed.

For every 10-20 studies pointing out the ethanol myth, there's one pointy-headed university-of-something-based-study saying the opposite. Same with the Global warming myth....

Lots of disinformation in this one, where does one start?

"Ethanol consumes more energy than it produces" Wrong. A university of Minnesota study concluded quite correctly that oil production consumes more energy than it produces and ethanol has a positive energy balance of between 35%-65%. Pinmental's studies have long been dismissed as junk science.

Ethanol is cleaner burning than gasoline. Next time you attend a brunch look at those burners under the serving trays. That's ethanol burning, if it was gasoline you'd be asphyxiated.

Ethanol production in the USofA uses corn for it's feedstock. The corn grown by farmers is field corn (which is unsuitable for human consumption) for livestock feed. Ethanol uses only the sugars from the plant and the protein stays in the distillers grain. The distillers grain is easier for the animals to digest.

Food prices are rising because of rise in demand. The Emerging market countries simply want a piece of the pie. Two billion Chinese, a billion Indians, a billion Russians, Eastern Europeans, latin Americans, Aficans, etc.

Strike four for ethanol.

According to a study by Merrill Lynch ethanol has suppressed the rise in oil prices by as much as 45 cents/gallon.

Ethanol improvements in productivity are occurring all the time. Corn ethanol will lead the way to cellulosic ethanol.

Ethanol burns cooler and is a safer fuel than gasoline. That's why the Indianapolis 500 switched to alcohol fuels and just recently switched to ethanol. It's safer in an accident.

50 cent per gallon subsidiary for ethanol goes to the oil companies and not the ethanol producers. They, the oil companies, get paid to sell ethanol at gas stations. The oil industry is much higher subsidized than the ethanol industry and has received 150 billion in subsidizes in the past 30 years.
