Michigan Primary results and thoughts

The Michigan Primary is in the bag for the Republicans and here are the results (with 90% reporting):

  1. Romney – 39%
  2. McCain – 30%
  3. Huckabee – 16%
  4. Paul – 6%
  5. Thompson – 4%
  6. Giuliani – 3%
  7. Uncommitted – 2%
  8. Hunter – 0%

Ron Paul finished 4th and he beat out both Thompson and Giuliani this time. He actually reserved more total votes than both of them combined. Once again this shows Ron Paul has a small but significant following. My predictions were quite a bit off. Heck I didn’t even have Huckabee on my list. For some reason I had blocked him out when I wrote it.

It seems to me that Fred Thompson needs to drop out. South Carolina will be interesting this coming Saturday to see if Huckabee can win since he is putting so much stock in that state. Giuliani is still counting on Florida and super-duper Tuesday for his coming out party. I wonder if his choice of being fashionably late to the party will be much of a hit with the voters.

The liberal blog “The Daily Kos” requested that Democrats vote for Romney to help split the Republican party more. They are claiming victory, but the exit polls show they had no effect on Romney winning. Romney got the majority of the tried and true GOP neo-conservative vote.

What has become an interesting story is that McCain is winning amongst those voters who disagree with the Iraq war. I’m curious if they disagree with Bush’s handling of the war and want more troops like McCain. It’s hard to believe they want to pull the troops out and end the war and vote for the warmonger.

If Ron Paul has a chance at cracking that 10% of the vote barrier it may be Nevada. He has visited Nevada several times and is campaigning there with an organization. The other candidates are more or less ignoring Nevada. Who knows maybe Ron Paul can pull a third place there. That may get him back in the news. After the unfounded racism smear on the good doctor his appearances on the news have dwindled. That could also be because of his performance in these early primaries though.

In any case, the message of true liberty marches on.
