Chances are pretty slim for Ron Paul to gain the GOP nomination. Because of this I often ask myself what happens next? What will be the lasting legacy of his campaign?
What if he wins a primary or two? What if he wins more? The “what ifs” build up in my head to a deafening crescendo and then I come back down to earth and start facing facts.
Here is what I believe we’ll see in Life After Ron Paul…
Many will look back on this campaign and identify themselves as a “Ron Paul Republican”. His message of liberty is an infectious ode to libertarianism and classic liberalism. I believe he will be looked at historically as a man who was the impetus for the revitalization of the “Old Right” by taking us back to the concrete Constitution rather than the malleable and often forgotten document we have now.
I believe that Ron Paul is the seed for the growth of other new Constitutionalists. His message resonates with people and those who witness the kind of support he is getting will no doubt decide to throw their hats in the ring at some point as well. My hope is that many will do so, if for no other reason than to give me reason to vote and pride for doing so. If I wasn’t so terrified of public speaking I would run for office myself.
When it comes to political campaign strategy the Internet is still uncharted territory. Ron Paul’s message is synonymous with the way his support has spread on the Internet. It has mostly come from liberty minded Internet savvy individuals utilizing the most popular corners of the web like blogs, MySpace, Facebook, Digg.Com, and YouTube. Most importantly his message has spread without much in the way of campaign costs.
The Ron Paul Internet phenomenon is akin to a computer virus spreading from computer to computer. The difference is this virus doesn’t ruin the computer, it infects the brains of computer users with a message of liberty and then moves on to the next hoping to continue to free more minds from the binds of Neo-conservatism and Socialism.
But that’s just my opinion I could be wrong. (Apologies to Dennis Miller)
